But he wouldn't normally have celebrated in front of our fans, so I suppose it could be said that our chanting added an edge to his game.

What?! Vardy has 200 goals for LCFC and a huge number of those have seen him celebrate infront of the opposition supporters. You must have seen this?!

To be fair Vardy has often made a point of heading towards opposing fans, he enjoys baiting them, which is fair enough.

I certainly didn't applaud his goal or when he was substituted off, but I did stay for the presentation afterwards. In his speech he made mention of his celebration as we'd given him a bit.

What was more embarrassing from my point of view was the loud chanting early in the game aimed at Vardy's wife.

It seemed distasteful to me on a day when the entire Leicester crowd had been given flags with Vardy's name on it, and even mores so when aimed at his wife.

I said to my mates that we would regret it, and indeed we did.

Vardy clearly heard the chanting and showed his contempt when he celebrated in front of our fans.

Vardy's wife put herself in the shop window I am afraid. Don't hear chanting at any random wives of players do we. Money grabber, always has been.

Slightly surprised at the reaction to the smattering of applause. Whether I'd feel the same if the game had anything really competitive in it, I don't know, but seemed a nice gesture after one of football's more exceptional careers - in the context of the journey from non-league to the title, FA Cup, England caps - in an end of season match when both sides have been relegated.

Rather more Everton fans applauded Enciso's goal the other week.

When you’ve won 1 in 18 and this is your best chance for a win in sometime I don’t think it’s a huge surprise that some would get annoyed by clapping conceding. He’s not even retiring it was very much a Leicester/Vardy thing.

Nothing to do with "woke".

Which is a good thing anyway.

It’s a popular memey buzz phrase in football discourse online atm for kids, morons and genuine reform supporting quasi-fascists.
It’s really cool.

Maybe, but it's felt like the season is over for weeks, so not been particularly invested in any game, really, they're all dead rubbers. If it had anything significant riding on it from a competitive angle, I doubt anyone would have applauded.

Still had financial implications and some pride in finishing above them. I’d actually think our fanbase was more invested in today than most recent games after we knew we were going down. You want to win and build some confidence and today was that chance. So after tough slogging I doubt I’d have wanted to see that had I been there tbh. It’s a bit different to polite applause after being substituted or something.

I think that was why the reaction at the end was so muted and the reaction so negative from some quarters, similar to the Southampton match. Certainly wanted us to beat them, and we really ought to have done given the chances we created, but still don't feel games once you're relegated have the same intensity. I don't feel a small gesture to Vardy was out of order. If he'd scored a last-minute winner, then I'd not think the same, whatever the wider situation.

Yep I noticed the Everton fans applauding Enciso’s goal the other week. I think it’s probably a generational thing, it was quite a common occurrence in days gone by.

Each to their own, I suppose. As a young fan, I probably would have got the hump about it. Now I’m older, I’m a bit more chilled out. Ipswich fans do have a fairly likeable and respectful reputation among most opposition fanbases so I’m not overly surprised some clapped.

Vardy divides opinion but his career is remarkable. He probably wouldn’t have celebrated in front of us had we not given him stick but who knows. And it wouldn’t have happened had the match held more importance.

I’d argue a far worse show of support was people leaving after the second goal as the group in front of me did today. And the guy at the top of the stairs giving the finger to the team and telling them to eff off as they came over after the final whistle.

But, like I say, each to their own and it’s up to them what they do. It’s an emotional game, it’s been a frustrating season and people react in different ways.

On another note, got a text from a friend of mine, a non-Town supporter, who was apoplectic that the referee allowed the Leicester players to form a guard of honour when JV was subbed.

Indeed, when you see clips from the 70s you quite often see a brilliant goal being applauded by opposition fans (during an interruption in the fighting, obviously).

Call yourself a fan ?

Why would you give up on a result and applaud a total chav ?

If he had scored 3 or 4 against Norwich City today I'd be a bit more giving or prepared to provide plaudits but he scored against us, not only that it were a poor performance from ourselves and all this right in the mix of a relegation scenario / on top of a real poor season.

Maybe he's great, maybe this Vardy is on a level or better than Gerd Muller or Diego Maradona, I don't know. It's their player and their business, I don't always see what he gets up to. All I can ascertain he's been a pivotal part of their recent success and helping win the EPL Championship etc. For that I guess he deserves a certain recognition.

Everton fans have always had a reputation for being generous to the opposition (when appropriate), something I discussed with my Everton-supporting father-in-law.

I think the same is true of Liverpool fans.

Sorry, but I really can't get on board with this type of thinking.
Of course the season has been over for a while, but I've still been going in the hope I'll see Town show some fight and belief, maybe even a clean sheet! I Can't see that losing every game until the end the season does us any favours at all.I was there yesterday and the clapping of Vardy from a section of Town fans made my toes curl to be honest.

One thing that was noticeable yesterday was that many of our fans had left before the McKenna and the players came over.

That hadn't been the case at any previous away game I've attended this season, and I've only missed two.
