Faking injury to break up play 20:47 - May 21 with 1279 viewsUSA

Going down feigning injuries to stop play is rife. Why not just allow a physio to enter the field of play whilst the game continues. That way a genuine injury/head injury can be treated but it would prevent the deliberate act of breaking up play with fake injuries.

Or a mandatory off-field concussion assessment for all alleged head injuries.

If it's a keeper and they need physio treatment then the reserve keeper has to come on until the next break in play. It would soon stop.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Physios on and takes player off, game continues, he has to stay off for 10 minutes to be assessed.
Player is safeguarded by having treatment, game continues with team down to 10 men.
Next “injury” exactly the same.
I have never seen so much diving and cheating in a half of football.
Fernandez clutching his head, he was never touched.
If we have the wonders of all camera angles why can’t there be restrospective action for simulation.
This could be picked up after the game and player booked or indeed banned for a game.

This discussion always reminds me of this nonsense from a supposed "GOAT"

Definitely want this sort of thing firmly dealt with even if retroactively.

There really has been a lot of diving in this game.

Nothing will ever beat Norwoods trudge back to the half way line and sprint back straight after the kick off! Can’t remember the game was a midweek one. He was classic.

An independent assessment in a room off the field of play so away from other influences that takes as long as it takes and the decision of the assessor as to whether they are fit to continue is law.

Of course, players about to be subbed anyway woudl still do it.

Yes. I maintain that professional matches (not sure down to which level) should be overseen by an independent Match Doctor, appointed by the league, who has the sole and final say over all matters such as concussion.

The debacle surrounding concussion assessments at the last World Cup proved that team doctors cannot be trusted to make the right decision.

They should have to leave the pitch for 5 minutes to allow proper assessment and recovery of their make believe injuries.

Me too. I find it sickening.

The solution is dead easy. If the ref doesn’t spot it the multitude of cameras will so a retrospective review of the game with 10 game ban for anyone caught pulling a stunt like those shown in this thread.

Most cheating is obvious. Cucurella’s attempt to get Hutchinson sent off? Obvious. 10 game ban. Marginal stuff? Not a lot you can do about that. 10 game ban: If players know that’s what is going to happen, they won’t do it.

Totally agree with you about simulation , if the ref doesn't deal with it , then deal with it retrospectively by card or ban.

Fernandes is one of the worst offenders , holding his head every time , it's pathetic and is cheating and needs to be dealt with .

Last night's game was awful , players diving all over the place

It is easy as most have said, Ref stopping the game for any injury that he has no deemed an offence... minimum 5 minutes off field assessment.. head injury as above 15 minutes off field assessment with permanant concussion sub allowed within 15 min period

I have no problem with the team subbing their 'injured' player straight away - after all they are only likely to do that after a genuine injury. But if the player was faking it, well he's lost his place on the pitch as a consequence. If they want him to come back on - it's a wait.

When I was a lad growing up in the late 70's, if you pretended to be injured, you'd get kicked twice as hard the next time you got the ball! And that was just the teacher, tackling you! 😁

Yet many people thought that being able to set your watch by Mckenna's strategic time-outs mid-way through the first half was very useful. Fans get everything they don't complain about when their own team does it.

That was different, though. Usually it was Chappers taking a seat at a suitable break in play, receiving treatment, and having to leave the pitch.

Very different to feigning a head injury to try and immediately stop play, not receiving treatment, and then playing on as if nothing had happened.

There was one in the game last night at a Spurs corner, similar to one we saw at Portman Rd this season, all the players jostling in the 6yard box but just inside the penalty area a Man Utd player all by themselves, no other player near them just fell over feigning a push from Johnny X no doubt. Looks around realises nothing happening

But this time he gets up and not 30 seconds later, this time with a Spurs player nearer him, who still didn't foul him did the exact same thing again and this time ref bought it gave a free kick to Man Utd. Broke up the Spurs pressure, disrupted the game.

What i meant if the player genuinely had a head injury then the concussion substitute would nit have to wait...if yhey dont want to substitute him because hes "made it up" then absolutely he waits 15min
