Fish and Chips 15:22 - Jun 4 with 4603 views | Churchman | Lunch with Mrs C in Aldeburgh today after a mooch around. The Upper Deck, ‘admirals’ portion (large) and a pot of tea. Lovely service, clean, efficient, nice little room. Cod and chips to die for. 10/10. Thoroughly recommended - as good as anywhere and a gazillion times better than the pale imitations you get in foreign places like America.

Fish and Chips on 01:09 - Jun 5 by TVRBlue | Vic and Dennis Last had the fish and chip shop at the bottom of the hill in Snape, with the village shop next door to it. They did also have a fish and chip van that used to do the rounds round the villages. Happy days back then. I will be seeing Vic's son this coming weekend and I'll try and remember to point him in the direction of this thread - he'll laugh like a good 'un! |
Fond memories, I lived there for all my teenage years. Fish and chips was a Friday night ritual. I expect the old fellows were okay, probably didn't care for noisy teenagers like me.

Fish and Chips on 20:03 - Jun 4 by Swansea_Blue | It’s getting silly expensive. Our local chippy has taken large cod off the menu as he reckons they’re paying double per box compared to earlier this year and nobody around here would pay £15 for a bit of fish (they were massive though). Overfishing and reduced quotas seem to be to blame, so I can understand why. As we’re back in the Championship next year, I highly recommend Hiks if people are looking for a bite to eat before the match - it’s only 10-15 mins from the ground and has a bit of street parking around it if you’re early enough. Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/food-drink-news/award-winning-chippy-peop (Edit - for the Swansea away match - hopefully that was obvious!) I went here for lunch before our most recent game at Swansea - https://maps.app.goo.gl/3hNEm2L27ouBntSBA Good food, not expensive. Close to the ground and on the route from town judging by the number of Town fans I saw walking along the road in that direction.
Fish and Chips on 09:47 - Jun 5 with 776 views | Churchman | The takeaway in Martlesham (Admirals) used to be excellent. My dad and I always loaded up after the football on the way back to Waldringfield. A ritual to quell the usual disappointment of the afternoon. They’d cook to order so it’d be spot on. Then the staff/ownership changed and the new mush would fry it all up and leave it in the hopper thing to sweat. If you liked your fish chewy and minging; your chips greasy and soggy, that was the plaice for you. Thus it was abandoned after being kippered with a couple of poor takeaways. I believe it’s changed hands since then so maybe it’s better, but I’ve not tried it since.

Fish and Chips on 15:47 - Jun 4 by JakeITFC | A bag from Aldeburgh fish and chips sat on the seafront wall is one of life's great pleasures. |
Add a pint of Adnams in The Cross Keys as well and I’d say it’s as close to Heaven as you can get.

Fish and Chips on 12:02 - Jun 5 with 675 views | Warkystache | We went to Snape Maltings after - bloody hell, their food store is nice but pricey! I bought an unusual curry sauce, a hot massaman one to have with new potatoes and cauliflower tomorrow night and some chicken thighs. Difficult to get parked as it's so popular. Ended up right out the back of the site. Aldeburgh v Southwold - which do people on here prefer?

Much prefer Southwold personally. Just to add, Snape shop is like Suffolk Food Hall, everything sauce wise is basically £4.95 along with the prices of the Crisps. [Post edited 5 Jun 12:07]

I made a similar kind of mistake on a ferry..... They call it the poop deck, but they go a bit crazy if you use it for that

Went to primary school in Snape and my first real job was at the Maltings. Great place to grow up.

Southwold hands down. Its not as far up its own arse as Aldeburgh.

Southwold has 9 pubs to Aldeburgh's 5. It also has a sandy beach. Aldeburgh has a vastly better golf course, although unsurprisingly far more expensive than Southhwold's rather unkempt 9 hole course. Thorpeness is the best value for money golf option in the area.

Bit quiet for a teenager but was a nice little place . Plenty of Americans from Bentwaters lived there at the time I was there, in the 80's. Driving their big Yank tanks with cheap fuel from the base. Next door neighbour was a Phantom pilot. Big into Southern rock.

Fish and Chips on 17:38 - Jun 4 by Churchman | About £14 for the small, £16 for moby dick on a plate. The fish flaked at the touch of the knife, perfect batter, freshly cooked. Chips plentiful and nice. Stoke’s sauces to add to the fun. Drinks (tea and soft drink) plus tip £40.00. It was a similar price to the Maybush last night but with bigger portions, looking at the dude next door’s plate. I had the minted lamb burger yesterday. |
Thanks Churchman. In Tenerife at the moment, the thought of a couple of pints of Adnams followed by Aldeburgh fish & chips is enough to make me jump in a plane home! Must go down there again when I get back!

If you are near Tenerife South Airport, the Reef Fish Bar in Golf del Sur does excellent F&C & while the beer isn't Adnams, Dorada at €2.50 a pint might ease the pain. [Post edited 5 Jun 19:32]

Yes that's the one! Near the sea front and old bus station. The man who ran it always used to give me free scraps to go with my chips

I remember going to Snape Maltings with my good lady,we went into the antiques centre and she spotted a small German Shepherd ornament. It was priced at some £80,I was convinced I had seen similar at The Benters Green bring and buy sell for £1.50 the week before. We did also visit the food hall,it is expensive as you said, but if you root through it there is some decent stuff.

I hate Calais. When I was 11 I went on a School trip to Calais and I got split up from my group, anyway a group of French ‘wronguns’ nicked my money and my pen with a naughty lady inside it ffs.

Fish and Chips on 06:12 - Jun 6 with 203 views | Vic | Cant disagree that Aldeburgh is excellent - its the whole experience thing. But i went up to Southwold harbour last week and had cod and chips at Mrs T's. Got to say, I was impressed - the chips didnt hit the hieghts of Aldeburgh but the cod? Oh my word - divine! Very much a rival. [Post edited 6 Jun 6:13]

Honestly I agree with this. Caveated with the fact that you can walk to the beach in Aldeburgh for a very pleasant view, as opposed to Rands Way.
