Upwards, sideways or downwards move?

I’m going sideways.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Upwards from being jobless anyway but for me without a doubt regardless of how poor the Scottish premier league is Rangers is huge in comparison to Southampton historically, potential and global profile.

Unfathomable that finally Rangers have some money behind them and they’re going after Martin.

Amazingly enough, it's probably a move in which both parties could do better for themselves.

Martin is surely enough of a fraud to be able to con a chairman of a club in a credible league to give him a job and Rangers are surely well off enough to be able to attract better than him.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

He spent a significant portion of his playing tine working under Paul Lambert and has clearly learnt the art of advanced fraudery.

"I can make the system work with better players."

To be fair, he is likely not wrong. When you have top quality men at your disposal (and a somewhat unbalanced league), anything you try is more likely to come off*.

* ManU and Spurs notwithstanding. Arguably, Amorim's players are not tempramentally superior and the North Londoners did manage to pick up silverware in Europe.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Confirmed Martin to Rangers … with Kompany to Bayern … surely KMac must be in the running for PSG if he fancies it.

The good news is that so long as you ignore Scottish football, you can pretty much ignore his post match whinging

Don't players etc go to Scotland when they can't cut it in the English game, or are coming to the end of their playing careers? Not sure what implications there are when a manager goes to Scotland though....

He’s going to luck out somewhere with quality players that hide the flaws in his ‘system’. It could well be at Rangers given the relative clout they’ve got. I pity the Rangers fans though.

He'll always go sideways...

It's a perfect move for him. No real pressure to overturn Celtic in year 1 given the huge advantage they have.

And he gets to play his 'style' of football with players who are better than 90% of the teams in the league, rather than the PL where they were worse than 90%+ of those in the league.

So, he rebuilds his reputation for his style of football, has a valiant effort to overturn Celtic and then in 2 years gets a job in a lower-end PL club who have been deceived by his achievements.

Whatever happens at Rangers, when things aren’t going to plan it’ll be the players who are to blame. Never one at Southampton to take his share of the blame. Easy to throw players under the bus as they “Can do better” “Must do better” “They didn’t stick to the plan” blah blah.
A very different approach from Kmc who publicly backs the group, takes the positives along with acknowledging the negatives to which they’ll work on.
I’d be surprised if Martin lasts 18 months there.

Agreed - they will flop in Europe as usual, but be flat-track bullies in the league. They’ll get 80pc possession against St Mirren, and that will prove to him his philosophy was right all along.

Amazed they have gone for him.

Congrats on winning the 25/26 title Celtic.

Increasingly, decent young players go to Scotland because they pocket more cash as the Scottish club doesn't have to pay a fee or tribunal-set compensation for a player U24 like an English club would have to. And then of course the player can come back to England when he wants. This is a big challenge to smaller clubs with academies (Exeter, Colchester etc).

Peterborough chairman is worried (and saying so, in his usual forthright manner) that Kwame Poku might go to Rangers rather than Birmingham. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/birmingham-city-tr
