Who else to go? If we manage retain Axel and Johnson 20:40 - Jun 5 with 2828 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | I'd let Harry Clarke explore options. Hate to say it, as I know he is a true Ipswich lad but just a little erratic positionally for me and would be quite far behind the other two mentioned. Any others from the League 1 crew or last Champ season, outside those that are not regularly discussed? Taylor probably a squad player that would be needed at times. There is not room for all the 10s. If we keep Philogene, Omari, Clarke, SS, then Maybe Broadhead goes. Of course there is Ogbene and Burns to come back on the right as well. Burns signed two years I think last September? So I assume would stay and coming back from a nasty injury I am sure some rehab to go. I personally think one of Jack Clarke or Omari is sold but not both. Love all the players that got us to the PL but I do think we need to be a little cautious thinking they could re-create 2023/24. The momentum is gone, a few years older and we are in a different place now. Got to keep moving forwards as a Parachute club! [Post edited 5 Jun 20:42]

Who else to go? If we manage retain Axel and Johnson on 20:53 - Jun 5 with 2388 views | ZedRodgers | Look, I’m going to stop you right there. The idea of letting Harry Clarke “explore options” is like suggesting Excalibur might be better off in a different stone. The man is not “erratic” - he’s operating in dimensions the rest of us haven’t unlocked yet. He doesn’t get caught out of position; space simply fails to anticipate him. I’ve long suspected Harry is playing his own game of 7D Total Football, occasionally glimpsing future formations and quantum overlaps that will only be fully understood when the UEFA Rulebook is translated into ancient Sanskrit and decoded by a flamingo named Kevin. As for letting go of any of the League One Crew - don’t you see what’s happening? We’re not just a parachute club. We’re a reincarnation dojo for emotionally charged footballing entities. Wes Burns isn’t injured - he’s undergoing a metamorphosis. When he returns, he’ll have wings. Real ones. Rumour is he’s been training in a Welsh cave with a monk who once marked Bobby Petta.

Who else to go? If we manage retain Axel and Johnson on 20:59 - Jun 5 with 2336 views | BrandonsBlues | Any player who has been in the Prem will want to stay there rather than play in a lower league. A team being relegated will always be fodder for bigger clubs to pick their best players, or players as back up for them. It is the circle of football. Last year we did it, now it is happening to us. A long summer indeed. Rather than panic, just let it pan out and deal with you we got left come the new season. You never know we may even have a new manager in place by then.

Yes, it happened to Burnley this time last year. Sold a load of players. At least this is not 2002-3 where we got fleeced. Anyone leaving PR will have had their clause met or reached our valuation.

I saw him play for Sheffield U against the Leeds and he was getting torn a new one. I don't think he's a starter at a top end champ club.

He wouldn't have been a starter for us if Brandon Williams hadn't had his demons and then as soon as Axel found his feet he was a bench player. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Doubt he was properly fit. He’s been injured or coming back from injury for months now.

I just don’t think he’s very good tbh. Strong lad and had a good connection with Burns but not a composed defender.

I agree. I was always terrified of the other teams left wingers when he played. He just seems to always be slightly out of position and a bit rash. Decent enough going forward but I would see if we can get a bit of cash for him. As you say whenever I saw him for Blades he was fairly poor.

I think we’ll keep Clarke this season and am hopeful on Axel. I imagine we’ll lose Davis, O’Shea, Johnson, Burgess and probably Broady. Omari not sure we will if £35m is the price, but if he makes a good impact for the u21s in the next few weeks, who knows.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Muric and Slicker out on loan. Taylor I think McKenna likes, but as many of us seems to agree, he doesn't quite fit how we play, I think he does very well in a team more suited. Al-Hamadi will be on loan, we'll be giving him another year to create some value. O'Shea I think stays. No basis other than at what point do you think a relegation with WB, then with Burnley and then with Ipswich isn't a great deal of fun and perhaps working back up would be more beneficial long term than keep jumping ship rather than staying to bail out with everyone else. Walton I understand, he either needs #1 shirt or goes and gets it elsewhere and is thoroughly deserving of it. Humphrey is in the squad imo. He'll get minutes and can be relied on which will be important when we've got turnover in squad elsewhere, brings back a bit of continuity. Broadhead I can understand wanting to leave unless Jack Clarke goes, then it's imperative we keep him. Would love those two on the left though throughout the campaign. Tuanzebe I suspect might leave, but I think we'll be trying very hard on this one, especially knowing the cost it might be to replace. Burgess? Not sure on this. Head says he'll go, it's clear Greaves was bought as a longer term option which makes sense, but I think we need him in the building, unless it's viewed an injury free Baggott can step in if we really need him? (Not sure, hard to judge based on his season with those injuries and disruptions, there's definitely a player there). The comments on Harry Clarke surprise me, the way we played with him in the team meant we had a huge amount of space behind, we obviously valued attack more than defence and that perhaps made him look more exposed than he would ordinarily have been. He's 24, had some very serious injuries and a major (in footballing terms) operation. Passion, physical attributes are there, defenders tend to mature a little later too, so I wouldn't write him off yet at all. Plus there's the extra 5% being a blue brings to the party. His numbers in our champ season were good too. Anyone have thoughts on Ben Johnson? Very quiet regarding him which surprises me. Where does he fit if Tuanzebe stays?
Who else to go? If we manage retain Axel and Johnson on 09:30 - Jun 6 with 1308 views | _clive_baker_ | I think there's room for the 10's. McKenna likes a squad stacked with options in the 'number 10' and tends to rotate the 4 attacking positions in game. Szmodics maybe goes if the money is right, but in an ideal world we keep them all. Burns won't be back for a while and who knows what version of Ogbene comes back. We should probably work on the assumption we have 1 of them fit at any moment in time. If we keep hold of J. Clarke, Hutchinson, Philogene, Broadhead, Chaplin, Burns & Ogbene we'll have incredible options. Ideally Szmodics too. With Johnson that's 9 for effectively 6 places on a matchday. Given fitness of a couple of them its probably a minimum we need. Agree on Harry Clarke, I think he sticks around for pre season but wouldn't surprise me if we deem him surplus.

If Tuanzebe goes is there an argument to give Johnson the #2 shirt and make that spot his own? He's not as good a 1 v 1 defender as Axel but you would think at Championship level he could be very strong, and capable of getting forward. He goes under the radar a bit but certainly had his moments this season. I'm thinking back to Leicester at home, Forest away in the Cup, he's talented and it might just be the opportunity he needs to stake his claim. Some of our better results coincided with him being in the team, albeit not always in the right back role.

Someone like Clarke simply isn't worth selling. At best you could sell him for roughly what we paid. You would be looking at a £3m profit max by the time you take into account one year's amortisation. Davis is the really obvious one. He would be virtually all profit as he will be sitting on our balance sheet at close to zero. [Post edited 6 Jun 9:54]

Bear in mind that RB slot was always the one we left open. With Leif bombing on Clarke/Tuanzebe are always drawn inside so it makes their positioning look poor at times. Tuanzebe is a level above Clarke quite clearly so he can get away with it more, but that's a high bar to judge Clarke by. I think he'll be fine next season, won't play every game but I wouldn't be looking to get rid just yet. Having said that I could see Johnson being useful there so that would leave us with three RBs. All three have iffy injury records, though.

Broadhead is a goner. I don't think we can include Burns as we just don't know what version we'll get back in New Year 2026. Omari, Philogene, Chaplin, Szmodics, J. Clarke, Ogbene That leaves room for a couple new faces too.

Davis, Ben Johnson and Woolfenden are probably the most valuable departures to the balance sheet, surely? All three would be sat at next to zero on the balance sheet, with circa £35m-£40m worth of profit to be had.

Yeah I would agree. Actually posted yesterday that for me, Johnson is the most obvious sale to generate some profit. A player that I am not sure has a role next season considering McKenna doesn't seem to like him as a RB, and you'll be able to count on one hand the number of times we want to play with a more defensive minded RW.

Part of me thinks that's why Woolfie is being edged out, due to player trading reasons rather than performance reasons. *If* you did sell all three of those, we'd effectively have £90m+ to work with this season. The rub is whether we can find another Leif or whether Kieran wants to maintain the system around Leif.
