Alan Nixon reporting that McKenna is Brentford's ideal candidate.... 13:18 - Jun 10 with 8453 views | itfcjoe | ...but comes with a huge fee Frank to take Cochrane to Tottenham Exclusive By Alan Nixon Thomas Frank wants Justin Cochrane to join him at Tottenham - and Brentford will allow the move. Frank is about to become Spurs boss and sorting out his staff, with assistant Cochrane his first choice. Cochrane has been linked with staying with the Bees as boss but he will go to Tottenham instead. Keith Andrews could also make the move but that has yet to be finalised. Brentford will look outside a new manager with Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna their ideal choice but coming with a huge transfer fee.

Alan Nixon reporting that McKenna is Brentford's ideal candidate.... on 14:30 - Jun 10 by JakeITFC | I'd be surprised if he turned down Brighton and Palace but jumps at Brentford tbh - his stock obviously hasn't dropped on relegation and you'd have think he'd back himself to get us up again now (or at least be in the mix come the next wave of Premier League vacancies). He's very well looked after here so it wouldn't be for money, he's managed at Prem level now so it wouldn't be for that and it doesn't look like European football or trophies are imminent for a Brentford squad about to lose some good players. McKenna will clearly be aware of the plight of Rob Edwards and may want to cash in his chips now, but I don't see it anywhere near a slam dunk that the Brentford move is for him. |
The trouble is, if Brentford activate his release clause, then there is a conversation to be had between McKenna and Brentford which ultimately we have no control over.

I'm not sure it quite works like that with managers, but I'm sure that McKenna's people and Brentford would have been talking behind the scenes anyway.

I dont think one poor season in the Prem will have satisfied KM's desire to manage there.

Alan Nixon reporting that McKenna is Brentford's ideal candidate.... on 14:12 - Jun 10 by textbackup | No idea what’s said between them, but in my head MA has used the line ‘give us 1 season in the PL’ And if he has, again in my head, they chat if Brentford come calling and he’ll say ‘yeah you gave us a year, the gap is big, go see what you can do with a PL ready squad’ |
You maybe right but in my head the conversation went more along the lines of "We're going to give you a BIG contract, so please give us 2 years as a minimum as despite how good you are, the task to keep us up in enormous, if we go down, bring us back up and you will be backed"... or at least thats how it played out in my head.

Alan Nixon reporting that McKenna is Brentford's ideal candidate.... on 14:22 - Jun 10 by SuffolkPunchFC | What makes you say that? Frank is in the last year of his contract, on a remuneration level rumoured to be similar to McKenna's. McKenna has 3 years left on the contract he signed last summer. Therefore Spurs' compensation to Brentford is likely to be well less than what it would take to buy McKenna out of his current contract (3 years left vs 1) |
Had relegation not impacted KM's level of remuneration? Especially as a lot of people suggested that it was performance related.

Alan Nixon reporting that McKenna is Brentford's ideal candidate.... on 13:52 - Jun 10 by tractorboy1978 | I think we will know very quickly whether he is going or not. With it being a short summer for us, we need it resolved. For all that it seemed to drag on last summer, he had signed his new contract by 30th May. I'm quite hopeful he stays. If he's number 1 target for Brentford it can't be a surprise for him given Postecoglu was obviously off and it seems Frank was always the replacement. Agents know all this well before it happens. And the tone of his words a few weeks ago were totally different to last summer. |
We need it resolved. Brentford need it resolved. It will be resolved one way or the other quite quickly. But it will feel like ages.

Alan Nixon reporting that McKenna is Brentford's ideal candidate.... on 14:27 - Jun 10 by The_Flashing_Smile | Just because they're known to be a bit frugal. It would be out of character for Brentford to spend £6m (or whatever it is) on a manager. Especially a manager unproven at Prem level, a manager who only managed one home win the entire season. Feels like a bit too much of a gamble for them right now. Well that's the straw I'm clinging to anyway! |
£6m is peanuts to an established Prem club. Saving £2-3m on the fee likely wouldn't be much benefit when it would delay planning for the new season. I also find it odd that some clubs don't want to spend on a manager when a good one can get a bit extra out of their very expensive players. I am sure this will be wrapped up by the time the transfer window opens again. If they want McKenna and he wants to go I think it will be done very quickly. If he's still here on Saturday I doubt he will be going there.

Well, we of course don’t know the details, but you’d expect the contract to offer a fairly decent basic and then have performance related top-ups. With relegation the top-ups won’t be triggered. However, the main point I’m making is the relative length of the remaining contracts. It’s going to be more costly to compensate a contract with 3 years remaining vs 1 year. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Doesn't tally up with anything that McKenna has said though does it. Just a load of drivel, based on nothing!

Frank had a £10m release clause supposedly, plus he's brought his assistant and two other coaches from Brentford. Not unreasonable to think that packages is in the range of 15m. So even if we have a 6-8m clause on McK, they're still in profit.

I agree and IMHO when he does depart PR with our best wishes, his replacement is equally unlikely to be one of the list of existing Championship managers that people are touting on here. Many folk have very quickly forgotten that MA appointed an unknown first team coach who was at the top of his list a few years ago...

I don't think the betting markets can tell us anything. Only one bookie (BetVictor Group inc Talksport, Parimatch etc) have the market up and they are just throwing names out there. They have Keith Andrews at 3/1 just because he's already in the building. McKenna is short as it makes a lot of sense but at this point the market is even more meaningless than it normally is.

Alan Nixon reporting that McKenna is Brentford's ideal candidate.... on 22:50 - Jun 12 with 672 views | BenLaine | The reality is that it is very hard to keep a manager if a club a division higher come calling. Not impossible, but fans tend to talk themselves into their club being more attractive than it is. If I had a pound for every time a manager leaves for a higher league and fans call him a snake or say something like "I thought he would have wanted to stay for the project and build something." For managers, they all know that the same fans who go on about loyalty will want rid of them if results turn. McKenna is a bit of a unique case as he has a double promotion followed by a relegation from a desperately hard Prem, so lots of credit in the bank. But managers are not guaranteed tomorrow, so I never blame them for moving for what they see as a better opportunity. They are not commodities, and have personal careers to think about. From the biased perspective of a football fan it is shocking when the manager of "their club" moves on, but it is perfectly natural, especially in a world where managers will be sacked at the drop of a hat. If McKenna stays, it speaks volumes about how he sees Ipswich Town, as Premier League jobs are very difficult to come by, especially for British and Irish managers. So McKenna staying would signal (to me, anyway) that he is fully committed to Ipswich and would only leave (in the short term) for a top, top Prem job (or in the medium to long term if he fails to get Ipswich up this coming season, maybe).
