Englands failures tend to come in a 4/5/6 game tournament every 2 years. ITFC have failed far more then England However, I’d pick ITFC every time. I used to think I’d pick England for a national party/celebration. But as I don’t really like anyone but Suffolk folk, the rest of the country can fist itself. |
Charming, as always. Judging teams based on how many games they have no choice in playing is a really odd way to judge them. Most people judge them on actual success. England have won nothing in my entire lifetime. I've seen lots of success with Ipswich in that time.

Would you rather on 11:16 - Jun 11 with 861 views | surreyblue | Still Ipswich every time. England remain important, but their importance to me wanes when Ipswich are doing well. The performance of the national team in major competitions between 2018 and 2022 was a welcome relief against the misery provided by Ipswich during the second half of the Mick regime and the subsequent triple Paul era. Unsurprisingly the Euros last summer felt less important following the joy provided by Ipswich the previous season. It's not just a football team thing either - the more of the teams that I support/follow (Ipswich, national football/cricket/rugby teams etc.) that are doing well, the less I care about the ones that aren't.

No no no. Last day of the season, Ipswich take 3 pts at Portman Road to clinch the title (having already been promoted) and relegate Norwich. Far better than giving them a day out at Wembley.
Would you rather on 11:36 - Jun 11 with 806 views | _clive_baker_ | I'm generally club before country but given its a World Cup vs. the prospect of us getting tw@tted every week in the Premier League I would probably choose England.

OK now that's different with the added nuance. The ideal scenario is we have Norwich away near the end of the season. A win guarantees us the title and relegates them. 0-3 Chaplin, Hutchinson, Woolfy. A short break then England win the World Cup beating Germany in the 1/4, Argentina in the semi and slapping France 4-0 in the Final. I can dream. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

What successes have you seen exactly? 78 FA Cup/81 UEFA Cup? You'd have been just a wee kid barely out of nappies. The only victorious final you're likely to have seen would be the 2000/01 Championship Play Off Final. [Post edited 11 Jun 11:48]

Why does it only have to be finals? Do promotions not count as successes? I was 5 years old when we won the FA Cup, and 9 for the UEFA. Not sure what relevance my age has there. Even if the 2000/01 Championship Play Off Final were it, that's still more than England. Not really sure what your point is (I mean that generally, as well as this specific post).

Promotions as runners up? Sounds like a barrel being scraped to me there. But if we are going to count runners up as success then England were Euro Runners up in 2020 and 2024.

You didn't enjoy the back-to-back promotions then? A trophy's different. You don't get anything for coming second in a trophy competition. Promotion to a higher division is most definitely a success. Only a weirdo would think otherwise.

Do you need a hand shifting those goalposts? They must be heavy!

Would you rather on 12:24 - Jun 11 with 687 views | Swansea_Blue | Ipswich, 100%. We’re my team and have been watching us for about 48 years. England are just a team that I’ve seen live only a few times and sometimes watch when they’re on the telly. I’ll have seen tens of other clubs live more often than England. I enjoy the feel good factor when they’re doing well (although that’s not noticeable here in Wales) and show more interest on the rate occasion one of our players is involved, but other than that I’m not too fussed how they get on.

What goalposts have I shifted? I said, "Ipswich have won stuff in that time, England haven't." Winning promotion is winning. The clue is in the word "winning". I don't know if you're some kind of sadist but you appear to be trying to catch me out and ending up embarrassing yourself on a daily basis at the moment. Walk away from the computer, fella, I'm starting to feel sorry for you.

Ok so runners up is a success if you're Ipswich but not if you're England is basically what you seem to be saying. You're being ridiculous. Runner Up means Runner up regardless.

Not a hope of a World Cup after this Paul Hurst-style appt, though. Yeah - course Delap wouldn't be able to cope with it whilst 'only' at a relegated club where he still managed to score double figures in the Premier League. Of course Ivan Toney must be better?! I've never boo-ed England before, but after travelling for hours to watch that rubbish last night even I joined in.

And Ipswich have given me far more joy over my lifetime than England ever have. Depends on what criteria you judge "disappointing". Ipswich have won stuff in that time, England haven't. |
I use to follow England home and away. It was a treat compared to Ipswich under MM et al. Ipswich promoted is my answer. Promotion again in all likelihood will be relegation again though....
