Or is football that much up its own backside these days, that it doesn't even need to mention the pay/benefits in order to attract a stupidly large pool of applicants?

I think it's fairly normal these days - a lot of processes now use an online application. It probably makes the initial digital sift easier to do, and eliminates the ability to game the system by doing things like hiding key words in white in a footer and suchlike.

What’s actually wrong with the pack? It tells you what they expect from a candidate- unless someone is a complete idiot then that person should expect to grow within that specialised field, gaining experience daily. In terms of pay - I’m guessing that to a certain extent the successful candidate will expect to be paid the going rate which they will be fully aware of. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

They’ll be paying about £25k, hence why there’s no mention of that

It's a two way street though. Even if it's being made abundantly clear what is expected of me, I would expect to get even a hint of what I can expect in return, before I potentially waste hours of my time filling in the application and going through the interview process, only to find out that they can't/won't beat or match my current T&Cs. As Texters alludes to, the only reason a firm doesn't mention T&Cs in a job advert these days is either because they aren't actually that good, or want to get the post filled cheaply by hoping that the candidate will request a package far lower than the budget for the role. I’ve had a look of late at a number of roles, so many don’t mention the salary… fill in an application and they ask what you expect. So do you A) price yourself out of the role B) under sell yourself to get an interview C) put current wage If your CV was top notch, with a proven record of finding top players, could you realistically go in saying you want £50/60/70k for that job? I’d guess you’d get laughed out of the room… but could potentially make a club £5/10/15m over a few years.

It's mad, isn't it?! Almost limitless amounts of money available for players, but clubs will penny-pinch for support staff, even when the £10k-£20k p/a they're saving would only pay for an hour of a top player's time. It's like I was saying in the discussion about Frank to Spurs, and the chance that they might baulk at his £10m release clause, whilst spunking £60m on dross like Ndombele.

Texted has no idea how much the club will be paying. If someone exceptionally good applies for the role then the club will have to match/better their salary. Alternatively, if the club advertised that role with a high salary that might well put-off good candidates.

I’m basing my guess on other professional roles the club have advertised in the last 2 years that have had a wage attached

And also, a properly put together application form eliminates the need for a CV. The forms on the NHS Jobs website are a genuine masterclass in how to put together an application form. NHS HR departments, however....

In which case I really hope that the club is headhunting alongside the job advert. Whilst it might attract people who are unhappy in their current role, and are looking to move on, I can't see that advert doing much to encourage top candidates, who are very happy in their current role thank you very much, to expend time and effort in putting together an application.

In my youth coaching days, I got the nod from someone high up at Suffolk FA to apply for a role at NCFC delivering some training sessions to schools/spreading the NCFC word/handing out freebies etc Thought I'd take a look at the online application form for it, which was extensive before dismissing it completely when I scrolled down to the salary bit, which was minimum wage levels but sold as a "foot in the door".. Thanks but no thanks.

I think that’s the hope from some of these roles. ‘Well you’re at a Football club, so really just be grateful for that’ My wife sees a physio, and she was at Cambridge Utd for a while, said the only people football clubs care about are the players, the rest of the staff (whilst needed) are a bit in the way. Also, seems a really unstable environment to me. You’re a season away from being mad redundant if the first team have been a car crash

I despise online recruiters, as it's always the same MO. I work in a fairly high-demand sector (even in my mid-30s I'm well within the younger end of the profession) so get a fair few requests to talk on LinkedIn. I had one a few months back where I asked for the salary, and the range turned out to be significantly less than my current package, so respectfully declined, telling them this. Cue the recruiter coming back asking me for details on my current package, as the salary was 'negotiable depending on experience'. Just give me an honest appraisal of the T&Cs up-front, rather than hoping you can get me on the cheap. B@stards.
