I doubt Delap was on £50k+ a week so hasn't saved that much money.

I doubt he was on that sort of money, but half that isn't unrealistic. Depends how long the deal might've otherwise taken, but the fact remains the earlier it happen the more cost effective it was for us. Why wouldn't we shift £25k a week of wages at the end of May rather than pay that through until August. Not silly numbers but it all helps.
The only other factor I could think of would be PSR, getting the deal in to this years number which might've been favourable to us. | | | |

Another point on the idea of letting him speak to clubs once relegation was confirmed and sealing a smooth sale is how professional and appealing that will be to other players in the future. We are always going to be a stepping stone, be that as a yo-yo club or an established PL side. If we don't stand in a player's way, you're more likely to attract the next Delap, Hutchinson etc. |  | | |

You’re right. It’s a good job nobody ever discusses past players like Taricco, Dyer, Downes, or even Mariner and Wark. These players should be dead to us if they ever leave for another club. They did a job and left.
