Did you watch the tv programme the other night about whether he could be PM? If not, you should watch it. There were some real eye opening moments where his spending plans were questioned and he basically admitted he had no idea. Then he tried to say there are no promises, just aims and you can never promise anything in politics.

Sorry to butt in, but I think it’s important to make a distinction between hating *this particular Israeli government* for its reprehensible actions (which is understandable and probably the position of most decent people); and hating Israel generally, which most reasonable people haven’t previously done excepting the illegal actions by some Israelis.
I doubt the Starmer alliance is as precise as you suggest either, there are too many other reasons to dislike or like him - take the recent backbenchers rebellion for starters.
I doubt many amongst the UK population “keep up” with politics as much as some on this site obviously do. In fact I think many switch off because they find it all too depressing, and re the ME in particular because it’s also very, very complex and they feel overwhelmed/powerless .

I think it's telling that Bob Vylan doing, an admittedly slightly foolish, chant about the idf seems to have generated more anger than the many many atrocities carried out.

Not all retirees read The Mail, and not all who read The Mail are retirees. Doesn't fully explain why anyone reads it but the first stage of analysis is disciplined information gathering. perhaps the next stage is to posit whether The Mail satisfies some primeval need to confirm in the hope of survival as part of a large group that might be attacked...a bit like wildebeest ? | |
