He certainly did and I’d argue it’s harder to create an organised, harmonious and functional unit at that level.
The players he picked all looked like they wanted to perform for him.
In that role, It’s not like he can just identify one or two players and say, yep, these are the ones I’m going to build the team around for the next three tournaments.
Time will tell whether choosing Tuchel was a master stroke, but I wonder if the FA panicked a little too quickly after the Greece game?
That said, I don’t think Carsley ever gave the impression he really wanted the hassle of dealing with the temperaments, petulance and overblown egos of the already rich kids in the main England squad. |  |

I’m sure they wouldn’t have “denied him” the opportunity, but not succumbing to an implied feeling of obligation and loyalty to your first established Prem side when joining it, is a big pressure for a 21-year old player. [Post edited 29 Jun 10:45]

Think he'd have done well in the U21 Euros but I suspect that Tuchel will have been more interested in seeing how he gets on playing in the Chelsea team against higher level opposition than in seeing him in the U21s again. | |
