For £35m-plus? Can't see it. That's two/three big signings at this level.

Also, Omari is ambitious, not saying he would cause a headache, but he's too good for the Championship and might say he'd like to go. McKenna will only want fully committed, onboard players around.

£35+ would be hard to turn down.

Look what happened when we sold Keiron and the players we were able to buy from that.

It is. But if we don't NEED the money for PSR purposes for year ended 30 June 2026, irrelevant surely? And cash doesn't seem to be something we lack either.

Because without the release clause we would have undoubtedly received a lot more for Delap obviously. You'd have been looking at £50m

If I'm correct, Delap had a release clause of £40m, should we have stayed up.

Ambitious to play for Brentford in front of 17k each week? I appreciate it's not about attendances and it's all about the money, but it doesn't half wind me up that we're not more attractive than the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford who could fill our stadium and still have room for more.

Indeed, McGreal, Jermaine Wright, Reuser and Stewart later on in the season, probably someone else I've forgotten.

Yes and no. Bid of £35m made, but payable over several years so not meeting the required terms. Deadline has now passed, but Brentford could come back in, and I would guess they will.

Absolutely gutting if Omari goes, he's a complete differential at this level in a way I don't think any of our other forward players are quite. No doubt we've got a lot of talent, but none quite like Omari.

That said what Championship club turns down this sort of money? Its approaching Rutter to Brighton sort of money.

I think McKenna/the club can persuade him, assuming this is even true. I'd have thought Romano would already be all over this if it was?

I wonder if we could offer him a release in January at £35m (if clubs will pay that now, they'll pay that or more in January) if we're not X points clear of third place?

I'd take £40m, so long as £30m+ of this was able to be reinvested into the playing squad.

£8m Ruiz
£9m Fellows
£15m Hackney

I don't think we need additional funding. With parachute & solidarity income, plus what we gained with Delap, we have a lot of headroom.

Circa £28M of amortised fees on the books this year from last year's signings, plus whatever signings there are this summer, amortised over 4/5 year contracts. Wages will have automatically dropped with relegation clauses kicking in.

This isn't to say we won't sell if the right offer comes in, but I don't think any more is needed to balance the books right now. Next years becomes tighter if we don't get promoted.

Hopefully we banked a big surplus last season through an atypically small wage bill. Even a wage bill of £100m could see us carry forward a PSR surplus in excess of £40m; add to that the Delap profit.

Skipping 23/24 accounts because all three were established PL clubs with larger expenses: turnover and wages for the 22/23 Championship cohort were:

Watford - turnover £65m, wages £49m
Burnley - turnover £65m, wages £54m
Norwich - turnover £75m, wages £56m
(Saints 23/24 - turnover £84m, wages £79m)

Can you see wages being below £55m this year, given spending on transfers last season (2nd or 3rd all-time outlay for a newly promoted side?), and given our continued investment this season?

We would do well to exceed Southampton's turnover in 23/24 given they were a decade-long PL club, with PL trappings of ticket prices and sponsorship deals. Maybe parachute payments receive a nice uptick this year, not sure.

It looks plausible that we're set to make a FFP loss already for 25/26: £28m amortised fees* + current wages > projected turnover?

*estimate: subtract Delap from 24/25 figure, add Broadhead, Clarke, Al-Hamadi, Hirst, Taylor, and Matusiwa.

£8m Ruiz
£10m Rak-Sakyi
£15m Hackney

Something about Rak-Sakyi doesn't sit right with me.

Everything I've heard about him within the football world has said he lacks drive and self-confidence, despite being really talented. Very much a Woolfie-style lackadaisical character that we can probably do without in the final third.

14 assists for Fellows last season in a pretty rank WBA team!

Out of curiosity, why does it seem that people are more content with Hutchinson leaving for 35 when there was, what looked to be a high number of people, outrage that we sold Delap for 30? With fees paid, it’s very similar in terms of profit.

Maybe people think Delap’s ceiling is higher but I would rather lose Delap than Hutchinson if I had a choice..

Because Delap had an extremely good first season in the Prem, and Hutchinson, in comparison, did well considering he was in a struggling team, without pulling any trees up.

Delap gave experienced, internationally capped, central defenders a mauling on more than one occasion, Hutchinson, generally, was at best honours-even against similar quality full backs. Which is still impressive for someone his age in his first Premier League season, but Delap had a much bigger impact.

The stats put it plainly:

Delap 12 goals, 2 assists in 37 (5) appearances.

Hutchinson 3 goals, 2 assists in 31 (1) appearances.

Plus Centre Forwards usually have a 1.5 to 2x mark up on wingers and support forwards.

Leeds played hard ball with Gnonto.

I don't know the ins and outs of the clubs finances but we are very cash rich clearly and look willing to operate this summer without him leaving knowing we have an asset on the books that we can sell at this sort of level in 12 months time. And do we actually need to book £10m-£12m profit in our books for year ended 30 June 2026 to comply with FFP?

If it means we can increase our bids for other players, or pay more up front, then that may be enough to get deals done much quicker and easier than otherwise.

Tho perhaps McKenna is the man to instill that confidence and spark his drive.

I'm basing that more off the fact that he was a previous target and we generally go back for targets we don't get the first time around.

Because in the open market Delap would have been worth nearer double than what we got for him, where Omari isn't - that's not to say he's a better or worse player, with a higher or lower ceiling, but just the premium that strikers attract

I understand yours and others points… iI do wonder if we really would have got £50m for Delap, while his high ceiling is as clear as day, is he ready to start every week for a top team (only top clubs can spend that money). I guess we will know the answer by Christmas. Aside from Chels, £50m seems a lot for potential. Of the clubs who have spent £50m, most players were approaching their prime or had at least two seasons at the top level, with some exactions.

I think £40 would have absolutely been achievable, so have a better understanding of the difference in frustration between the two players now, cheers.

I think we should be looking at £50m for Omari, payable over 3 years, seems reasonable to me.

He is an immense talent, already a Euro winner with the u21s, baring misfortune will certainly go on to get many, many England caps within the next 2-3 years.

And if he does go to little Brentford, will be sold on to a Liverpool/Citey/Madrid type club for £100m+ in 3-4 years time.

Don't want him to go of course, he's gonna destroy the Championship, and I'm already dreaming about his double hattrick against the scum...
