Weird hive mind question... For people 45+... Who grew up in the UK... 21:19 - Jul 23 with 2016 views | ArnoldMoorhen | Please settle an argument. What was the name for a temporary portacabin classroom in the 80s? My wife and I are from very different geographical regions of the UK. Please reply with the name for them at your school and the County you lived in!

Weird hive mind question... For people 45+... Who grew up in the UK... on 04:04 - Jul 24 by Benters | Hut. North Essex. One of them was jacked up on bricks and blocks and we’d crawl about underneath it. That was in the 1970s. |
"One of them was jacked up on bricks and blocks and we’d crawl about underneath it." Same here. They were also appallingly easy to break into.

That’s the thing I hated school apart from the sports and girls and pink custard chocolate pudding the English teacher, the friends I made and still have a lost of contact with some on them. But yes you could break into them easily, and on a rainy Sunday afternoon some of us did, didn’t cause any damage to anything though. The same with beach huts. Why are there two of these threads running anyway ?

Another vote for demountable from Essex. I went to school in Colchester, Birch, Pitsea, Benfleet and Southend and never heard them called anything else. I've been a school governor in Essex too and also called them demountables when we had to get one at that school.

I went to school on the Essex coast and they were called demountables at my primary school.

Phil told me the hobnob fund was running low so could I find a way to maximise clicks with nostalgia threads. Either that, or it double posted from my phone, as I already apologised for on page one.

So you did I just thought I was going nuts seeing another thread on exactly the same thing. Funny thing the memories that you asking that brought back to me. I think because ‘the hut’as we called it was a bit further out into the school playing field,we all thought we were being given a treat by going in there for lessons. Have a nice day. Demountable - That's my recollection as 6 year old at Rothman's school in Great Baddow. I thought I must have remembered it wrongly! Mobiles / pre-fab later on in Suffolk
