Hearing we've also stepped up our efforts on him.

This striker signing we all want to support Hirst is a difficult one. They have to come in knowing they may not be an immediate starter but can contribute from the bench and eventually start on a rotation basis.

This makes it a hard sell for most high-level forwards IMO. Kone would surely see it as a big step up though.

Millwall's Ivanovic is who we should be trying for. Tough to sell the 50/50 split with Hirst though.

I think for whoever comes in it needs to be "you're in a straight fight for the shirt, and you'll get plenty of minutes in any case". Which isn't an unreasonable pitch. Most serious clubs will go into the season with two really good strikers and we have to be the same otherwise it'll screw us. Agree Ivanovic is the ideal, a lot of competition though.

I think any second choice striker is a risk for us if they aren't already proven at top 6 Champ/lower PL level aren't they?

Someone mentioned Josh Maja on his thread and I guess you'd say he represents less of a risk as he's 'done it' before at this level, but is that his ceiling?

He just strikes me as someone that is either going to be absolutely incredible or totally out of his depth with very little in between. As you say, someone like Maja represents less of a risk and is a safer pair of hands. I'm more of the opinion we need someone that can do a guaranteed job and you don't necessarily need every signing to be one with a huge ceiling and resale value. But I hope if we do sign Kone, he flies obviously!

I wonder if he'd be any if much of an upgrade on Al Hamidi.

We need to look to sign a number one striker. Davis aside, every other League One player as either moved on or been usurped. On those grounds, Hirst should be no different.

Huge upgrade on Ali.

Huge

We would have to be confident he definitely steps up straight away. Firstly because I don't suspect he comes cheap. And secondly because if Hirst gets an injury that puts him out for 3 months and Kone isn't quite at the level, we could be in bother. He looks like he has all the attributes but it's a risk as a second choice striker?

I’m not sure you would be able to find a better backup striker than Kone. Has the ability to be a starter for a fair few championship teams

To be fair, I thought this might be the case when he jumped from Step 5 (Essex Senior League) to League one but he has made the jump quite comfortably.

Could always be another Vardy/Dwight Gayle situation.

And it could be Adhadme one to only more expensive.

Reminds of an Al-Hamadi mould.

Likelihood is Hirst will miss a portion of the season with injury, I think you a rolling the dice to rest your cap on both Kone & Al-Hamadi.

Would prefer a more experienced/proven support option in the second choice position.

Elijah Adebayo, Marcus Forss, Delano Burgzorg, Josh Maja

Why has he first half the season superb under Bloomfield second half under Dodds poor is a understatement I watched the play offs looked slow and pondous concerning but those game was a short window to judge.

Just my opinion, but he’s not good enough.

As you say, a hard position to fill given Hirst is likely to be first choice. Sadly, I don’t think we can rely on Hirst staying fit all season.

I thought this, seemed to have 2 totally different seasons in one. Haven't seen enough of him, but if his fall off was that big in L1 do we really think he would be that much better than AAH.

I assume Broja still not fully fit, is that something KMc would explore again as when he sets his sights on a target we often persist ....

Pretty bold statement when he has never kicked a ball at this level.

Yer i totally agree. The young loan in the Guiu (Hutchinson mould) would have been one we could have eased in around Hirst. Clearly with Hirst signing a new contract he deserves to start the season as no9. Obviously every fans doubts hinge around his fitness and availability. I suspect you’re right and we may well see another signed in the window for the 9 position. I wonder what fee Kone will fetch. 4-6M would be my guess in the region of.

Luton bid 7 million in Jan. I know Jan is a different window and his form tailed off but would be surprised if we picked him up for that.

Also will be an easy deal to make as he's really keen on moving to us. He's just waiting for the clubs to formally discuss a fee and agree one..

He might be the easy part but Wycombe are owned by a billionaire now, so the club side will be harder to get an agreement on.

No every league one players gone Walton, Chaplin,Hirst and Davis all still at the club so it's not true that Davis is the only league one player left

That was almost the whole Wycombe team.

Dodds played bad football, didn't suit any of their attackers really.

its not a striker to support Hirst that we want. We want a striker to compete with him. They need to be pushing each other to be better than they thought they could be.
Ivanovic for me.

Exactly this. Go out and get someone who is going to compete with him. Both will get plenty of minutes, if they start or come on later in the game. Ivanovic is the guy I’d be piling my cash on if l was the club.

Ivanovic is going to be 16m, and took a long time to get going for Millwall.

Just as much as a gamble as Kone for me.

Ivanovic is probably worth that too. He has done it in the championship,Kone hasn’t. My money would be on Ivanovic every day. Kone could be another Adheme or Ali and they were both panic buys.

Ivanovic has had one season in the championship and scored 12 league goals. NTT20 pod rates him very highly but said he took a while to get going. I wouldn’t call one good half a season proven to be honest.

I’m not going to lie I’ve never seen him play, I’ve never seen Kone play either. Both would be a gamble. Kone is more likely to accept being a rotation option with Hirst I would imagine.
