There is no doubt he could be world class. The question is, can those mistakes be coached out of a goalkeeper? Because for all the good thing he does, he undoes half of them, and that also has a knock on effect on the defence and the rest of the team. |

As I mentioned elsewhere, it’s a wasted spot in the squad.
Henry Gray seems a better option, he had a good spell at Chelmsford, and saw him a fair bit there, followed with a step up to NL last season. Would imagine he’s more the capable of 3rd slot without effecting numbers. [Post edited 3 Aug 23:38]

It could be a bit of both. Gray hasn't played enough men's football to mean that we couldn't use the 'emergency loan' route to register Button in the event of Palmer or Walton getting injured.
It's also possible that if the right deal comes in for Walton that he goes somewhere for regular first team football. | |

I believe this was his last game for us and neither of the goals could be put down to communication or coming or staying.

I saw him live in every game he played, and even when it came to shot-stopping, I thought his positional sense was sometimes lacking. I also felt his size (and I don't mean just height) meant that he was not especially agile which meant he sometimes didn't get his hands to balls that other keepers would.

Relieved this is being resolved. From the very off at Man City he was dodgy and am still mystified as to why he was brought in based on some of the errors while at Burnley.
Have seen him referred to as a potential world beater. Have seen little evidence of that. The Saints performance was the end for me and more than happy for us to go with Palmer and Walton this season. | | | |

He would be outstanding if our so called fans got behind him. |
He was named in the team of the season because Burnley pissed the league and had a very good defensive record. They then replaced him that summer and if you speak to any Burnley fans they'll tell you that even in that promotion season he often had a Muric, hence them buying Trafford to replace him. It's not true that he was Gordon Banks in the Championship but then something happened to him in the Prem that made him lose his head and start making mistakes. The mistakes are baked in. Go back further than Burnley and he had some pretty calamitous moments during loan spells from City too. You can't carry a keeper who has some excellent attributes but who doesn't communicate and more or less throws the ball into his own goal every three or four games. I wish him well when he goes, but it'll 100% be the right decision to move him on. [Post edited 4 Aug 8:44]

It is a risk/reward decision, that is true, and I'm not arguing against that - just from a squad building, squad numbers basis, my personal choice would to go with H.Gray as 3rd choice.
