It certainly can't harm our chances.

Not sure why we will suddenly become attractive yo him when ALL he wants is ANY PL club to come in for him. And do we really want any player here that's had to have his bent behind his back to "encourage" him to join us. We laid the red carpet out to him made by all accounts and extremely attractive offer and hes said no. That's it. Move on, im not sure id want him here now based on his clear aim to be at a PL club ....despite not a single one coming in fir him thus far. Maybe he and his agent have a too high an opinion of where he really is right now?

We want players who are to good for this league. That causes some problems getting them but would you rather we just got whoever would walk over broken glass to play for Ipswich even if they don’t improve the team?

No different to Akpom then in that regard.

Player has high ambitions = we don't want him here. Utterly ridiculous.

By the same logic we should never have signed Morsy, Hirst, Cajuste and on and on.

I have zero, absolutely zero issue with anyone wanting to play at the highest level they can. In fact I want players like that. Hackney deal almost certainly dead, but if he came I would be buzzing. You already know how motivated he is to get to the Prem!!

You know 99% of professional footballers want to be at a PL club right?

I’m not sure a player being ambitious is a reason to avoid them.

Indeed, you want/need ambitious players.

Cajuste signing might dent our hopes though.

Can still see it happening nearer the end of the window. At the moment there's some lower half prem teams with a lot of empty slots, but if none of them bite and Boro are unable to bring new talent through the door then I could see Hackney back at the door.

I reckon it will happen in January - assuming he's still at Middlesborough, and we are threatening the top of the table.

We've had a couple of fan favourites who weren't overwhelmed to join us at first. Think Morsy was a reluctant or rueful recruit? Hirst rejected us originally, only for another loan spell elsewhere to go badly.

Actually joining town this summer is very different to the last ones too

In league 1/Champ we were a project
Last summer it was wow prem side, chance for prem window
this summer it's hmm, could go up, could stay down, not really project stage anymore, ( even though we town fans know it's still a project)

Until Brownhill has found a club, I can't imagine any prem side going for hackney over him imo, cheaper to get too despite heavy signing on fee wishes

Also, just saw they are after jack grealish, obv different position, but that's a very different shopping market

The only thing that I can think of for a Prem side is that they'll leave it as late as they can in the window in the hope of getting a cheaper deal knowing Hackney would join them.

Struggling to see what his options are now really?
Sunderland, Leeds, Burnley, Brentford and even Spurs have all signed centre mids this window already, and I don't think for one minute United would look at him. Palace already have 5 centre mids (6 if you include the lad that's just come back from a loan), which pretty much just leaves Everton as can't imagine the rest of the Prem would target him.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Oh, Everton just signed Dewsbury-Hall also! So those Prem options are definitely dwindling now!

He's a Boro fan, that's the reason he's not here. I'm not sure anything can persuade him outside of PL footy.

If you were in a similar position playing a key role for a mid table Ipswich Town team, would you be keen to move to Southampton just because they signed an old teammate? Probably not.

I would if they had a far better chance of promotion than my current team….if he is that ambitious and not headhunted by a prem team surely playing for a top 6 team who are favourites for promotion is a better option?

Except it's the team he supports, the team he grew up loving.

It's not a rational decision based on the merits of each squad or the chances of promotion.

He's taking the risk that it does not matter wether he plays well for Boro or Ipswich this season. So long as he performs, a PL team is going to come in for him next summer.

Did he get on well with Akpom?

It's feasible they detested each other, but just gone with playing in the same team. So it may harm our chances.

I wouldn’t want Hackney now anyway. He snubbed us so I’d rather we sign someone who wholeheartedly wants to be a Town player.

If ginger Ed couldn’t persuade him then I don’t see Akpom having much more luck.

Maybe he could have a word with Latte Lath ?
