Akpom 11:29 - Aug 8 with 2697 views | Axeldalai_lama | Is there any chance it's a little delayed because it's now a permanent transfer? Bit of a leap, but with Cajuste coming in around the same time, making it potentially 3 loans out of 5 who can contribute, might we be trying to switch to a permanent?

This is what I heard too, mostly relating to the premier league wage should we get promoted. His demands seem to be very high.

That would seem strange, since he's had his medicals. It would be highly irregular to not have agreed personal terms before a medical.

I mean, it is, because it hasn't happened yet. There is probably a most professional and upstanding reason involving international clearance or whatever, but it has taken longer than it might have in different circumstances. I call it a delay, you can call it what you like, given that it has not already happened I was just asking if it might be due to us wanting him permanently. Probably not, no biggie, I'll move along.

and it most probably the smart play if we have missed the deadline for him to be involved tonight, just to delay an announcement. dont want to rev them up any more than they already will be. proper close and in your face test tonight, would take a point and get gone.

It's still a loan with an obligation to buy if we get promoted though, as far as we know. He travelled for his medical on that basis, from the reports, and only after that did Birmingham try to disrupt the deal by offering to by outright. The next update was them withdrawing. We of course don't have any 'official' info, but as it stands everything still points towards a loan with obligation.
Akpom on 12:24 - Aug 8 with 1815 views | Jimbo75 | Or it might be given the circumstances behind the deal and Brums involvement, announcing it prior to the game would fire Brum up more than they are already, tonight in itself is going to be hard enough without rubbing them up even more | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You’d think the club would have been aware of his current earnings and demands before having him complete a medical surely

Yep every other report is that all terms had been agreed, and he wouldn't have had a medical if they hadn't surely.

I'm not disagreeing that is the shape the transfer has taken so far, and probably will do overall. Just speculation on my part. Like a lot of things on here.

Terms of the loan might be agreed, but if the deal is with an 'obligation' to buy, then terms need to be agreed for his permanent contract starting next summer ... so every reason there could be a delay on that front.

Seems odd that he would've outright rejected Birmingham, if terms weren't agreed, to me!

But then would he not have known what both us and Birmingham were offering in that regard in order to have made a decision on which club to choose? You surely don’t make it clear you’re picking one club ahead of another (causing them to pull out) If you’re unhappy with what’s on the table
Akpom on 12:47 - Aug 8 with 1203 views | tetchris | I don’t think town agreed to a permanent transfer now. Brum tried to hijack the deal by offering to sign him permanently but then withdrew when Akpom said he only wanted to join town. Could be due to a number of reasons

It seems odd that all details wouldn't have been agreed before he effectively accepted and underwent the medical?

It's a numbers game. He only gets to enjoy the new terms if the team he picks gets promoted. If Town are favourites, they are more likely to get him his contract and a logical pick for him.

One would guess that there was a broad agreement on the loan fee/permanent fee to Ajax when we get promoted - which he was given permission from Ajax to travel and undertake a medical. The contract with Akpom himself will be completely separate to the deal, which will be dealt with by himself and his agent. I think people tend to forget that a contract isn't simply made up of a weekly wage, there are so many factors in play these days - probably complicated more by the fact that an obligation loan needs all aspects ironed out before getting the final approval. Do you know if we tried to sign him in January, Phil? He was available for loan, as he moved to France, and we were needing a striker.
