I wonder if its got to the point where the club have lost patience with Omari, especially after the other night and the "not feeling like he could participate" fiasco, and therefore are accepting a slightly lower than expected fee just to get him out of the club?
Either way this needs to be resolved so hopefully this transfer will go smoothly and then McKenna can focus on the lads that actually want to contribute on the pitch! |  | | |

Hard to know innit. Players are like houses: you get a supposed survey and then still find dry rot once you’ve moved in. Oh no, not that bit sorry. I mean they’re only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them.
It’s light considering we have rejected marginally lower bids. As I said on the other thread, it hardly seems worth the hassle and disruption (obviously £2.5M would be life changing for any of us, but very small beer for a big footie club). |  |

That's what I thought, because I'm sure I read (from someone authoritative) that for PSR/FFP purposes transfers out were treated as a single 'transaction' (as opposed to ammortisation of incoming transfers) so for a cash rich club like us, the instalments thing doesn't make much difference anyway?

Jacob Ramsey going for around £40m, 24 and got a few more seasons experience in the PL so £37.5 for OH is probably about right.
Personally I think that’s a bit of a gamble by Forest, he didn’t exactly shine in the PL for us but it was obviously a tough first season for him.
I guess it leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth about how it’s come about but if you’d have told me that that young lad who looked like a breeze would blow him over when he made his debut for us early in the 23/24 season would first become our record signing and then become our record sale I’m not sure I would have believed you. It was my understanding that release clause fees are paid in full, or certainly with a lot more up-front than would otherwise be the case.
I think that was the reason the original Brentford bid was knocked back - they met the £35m price, but didn't want to pay up front.
From an accounting and valuation standpoint, £37.5m receivable over, say, four years is worth a good deal less than £35m receivable tomorrow. | |

In a footballing context, obviously, less so.
If you were selling a business and could turn a £13 million asset in to a £37.5 million asset that isn’t losing value, what would you do?
Sadly, that’s where we currently are…, v cash rich, when you consider our parachute revenue .., but it’s mostly now sitting in cash for a valuation.
It’s nvwry short termism and the footballing consequences will be interesting.
Maybe Ashton will get asked a question which isn’t ’what’s your favourite cheese’ at the end of the window; when we will see with clarity what’s happened, because this isn’t what any long term footballing strategy looks like. | | | |

More complicated than that.
We signed omari at start of season for a 5 year contract for around £22.5M. Therefore his book value per year over 5 years decreases by 4.5m per year (22.5/5).
If we sell him for 37.5M now (after 1 year) his book value will be £18m, the net profit is actually 37.5M-18M which is £19.5M. That 19.5M gets recorded as a single value in this seasons PSR.
We then have to pay Chelsea around 4.875M (25%)

Personally think it’s a decent price. He’s acted like a petulant child and downed tools so there was zero chance of him staying. I’d imagine the club has had enough and he’d didn’t do that well last season. Good riddance to him. Get players in who want to play for the club. | | | |
