£37.5m feels somewhat light 20:07 - Aug 14 with 3288 views | Zx1988 | Especially with it most likely being paid in instalments, and subject to various clauses no doubt. Doesn't necessarily feel like much of an upgrade on £35m up front, especially when it had been mentioned that Ashton was valuing him at £40m-£50m.

£37.5m feels somewhat light on 21:18 - Aug 14 by Bellevue_Blue | I think the whole reason any deal has been held up with Brentford or Forest was over not enough being paid upfront so I wouldn't worry about that. I presume the other hold up is us wanting to keep that 25% sell on fee of profit that we have to give to Chelsea. The fact there has been a breakthrough for just 2.5M more suggests that Forest have very much come to the table when it comes to those two things. I don't think 40/50 was ever realistic but i do think his play acting probably contributed to us lowering our demands somewhat. |
This is the first summer I can recall people talking lots about the structure of deals despite it always being a thing. It’s funny how trends permeate fan talk. The first time I was properly aware of it was that time about 10-15 years ago when you couldn’t read this place without someone talking about jockeying. You never hear it mentioned now. It’s a funny old game being a fan. Not meant to be a dig in any way, just an observation and didn’t feel it warranted a thread. (You could well be right about the structure of the deal).

£37.5m feels somewhat light on 21:58 - Aug 14 by bsw72 | I’d be very surprised if our controllership would allow 4.5m write off for a deal concluded hours before end of financial year. How Chelsea treat the transfer and how we treat it from an accounting standpoint will be very different. Not saying they can’t but unlikely and we will only know once results are published. |
Just looked at the 23/24 accounts, and £26.3M appears under intangible assets (where transfer costs, agent fees, etc appear) which has to include Hutch. So definitely recognised in the 23/24 accounts, so presumably (and I’m not an accountant) the first 1/5th write down would also be in the same year?

What are matching rights if there's no buy back clause?

None of the fees we've been involved with have ever been big enough to really be bothered about the structure before.

Yes I think the guy said he would "give me" Chelsea. Omari had a talent I have not seen from many other Ipswich players over the years. He had defenders Sh*t scared with the ball at his feet in the box, gilded by them at times, and I am not just talking about lower half championship players either.

There’s probably not a person on this forum who watches more football than me - can ask the Mrs, she’ll vouch for that! | | | | Login to get fewer ads

There were a few games where he looked the best player on the pitch, not even the best player in a Town shirt. Some of those games were against very established Prem sides. He probably didn't do it as often as we'd have liked, but those saying he didn't look up to the Prem are WAY off the mark. Put him in a more capable team and he'll look very good.

They’re paying just over £22m for James McAtee, but £37.5m for Omari. I don’t need to say anymore than that.

It’s amortised on a straight line basis over the length of the contract, so doesn’t really make much odds when he signed in that respect. In other words if a player signed in mid June then 2 weeks worth would hit that year. It’s relevant on sale though, the profit / loss on disposal would hit the year the sale happened.
£37.5m feels somewhat light on 22:43 - Aug 14 with 194 views | joshITFCporter | For anyone crazy enough to say that 37.5M for Omari isn't great: Arsenal have never sold a player for 37.5M This would be Man U's 3rd highest sale Ipswich as a club were sold to Gamechanger for 40m just 4 years ago

One is in the last year of his contract the other isn't. I'll let you work out which is which ...
