He needs someone to push him doesn’t he?!

Had a shocker today, the sooner we get another striker the better.

RIP Sir Bobby

48 down votes... perhaps a new standard being achieved?

He definitely needs someone to push him, but mostly so he can either play 70 minutes or 20 minutes each game. He massively tires at the end of games, but until then he's fantastic and just fits our systems so well.

Frimmers got around the double ton mark iirc.

A ‘shocker’ you say? - remind me who set up our only goal of the game?

Shocking…

He was ok in spells and did a couple of really good things, but, there is a but, at times he looked quite lazy when not closing down or chasing, I honestly don't think he is the right person to lead the line all season, just not gonna be good enough consistently enough.

He can't control the ball too well can he, (well not today anyway), it makes you realise how good Delap was.

He can't control the ball ?

For the most he had a defender literally up his anal cavity all game and worked wonders with the space he was given

How many times did he spin his marker ...I remember at least twice leading to promising attacking situations

Ball control skills I think both Hirst and Delap are similar - only difference is Delap will get a shot away while Hirst will hold on to the ball longer and often gets forced wide or dispossessed

…..I reckon even Madley would have got his yellow card out for that.

It’s ungentlemanly conduct at the very least.

"Yellow Card" being a euphemism I'm sure

Couldn't fault his work rate but some really loose control and had trouble with the ball today. Just didn't come off for him. Was nearly a stunning finish though.

Indeed, once he gets to sharpness I can see him getting a hatful of goals as he did with Blackburn.

Do you not think he'd suit that inside left role with Leif on the overlap, rather than the conventional 10 behind Hirst.

I'm sure he played that inside left for Blackburn in a 3-4-2-1 in his best season.

I saw a Southampton fan describe today’s ref as the Ipswich man of the match. I thought that was going to be the most incredible thing I read today

People are incapable of recognising that they're massively biased towards their own team. Town fans who grumble about refs every week are every bit as wrong and tiresome as Saints fans who grumble every week.

National journalists who were chatting to us after the game had him down as man of the match!

He did a lot right, but he was far from clinical. That run on 39 minutes was fantastic, only for the shot to be tame as.

One penalty scored and one penalty missed so far. No open play goals so far, and none for any of our players in the first two league games. I know this isn't the premier league but you've still got to take your chances. Hirst has lots to do in our system, and he does so much of it well, but in any system the number 9 has to be able to take chances. Not a bad game overall, but I can't see how he's MOM.

I'm concerned that our total lack of other options will leave him knackered, which ain't gonna help either.
