Kasey McAteer on 13:36 - Aug 21 by AljoBlue | Looked at Leicester foxes forum and this came up about him: He's got a really weird skill set. He does seem (or did seem, it's alluded him a tiny bit lately) to genuinely be a pretty composed finisher and his runs ghosting off the ball to find space in behind are actually pretty good. Combined with his work rate and his aggression, he probably reminds me more of a mini-Vards than anything else. But not a single coach / manager in his career seems to have ever really considered playing him down the middle so there has to be something in that. Around the rest of the pitch, he seems too undisciplined positionally and not good enough in the tackle to be a full back, too technically limited to be a winger and doesn't seem to have the football intelligence and vision to really be a 10. Just doesn't seem to have a speciality other than running around a lot so... |
That’s a lot of judgement on paper. Assume you’ve watched a lot of him.

Kasey McAteer on 14:10 - Aug 21 by burnbudgiesburn | Don't in all honesty know enough about him, just feels like an 'unsexy' link but I do wonder if this could be us getting our 'interest' out there to maybe move along the Norwegian lads deal That is, if we haven't pulled the plug on that one |
This is a good point, and what a lot of people seem not to appreciate. Part of the 'transfers' game is to get into the mind of club/player involved, and making them think you're exploring alternatives will often clarify their thoughts, and move negotiations along. It's a game of poker ...
Kasey McAteer on 14:22 - Aug 21 with 788 views | PioneerBlue | Sounds exactly like the kind of player and age profile we should have targeted early in the window to build out the squad. Similar for midfield behind top of this level Azor and Cajuste. Ogbene was OHs understudy last summer with PL experience. OH cannot be replaced therefore we are now into running Ogbene and upgrading his finisher Burns. Burns contract is up next summer and we are not going to be extending that 1) until he’s proven fitness, and 2) we know what league we are in next year which points to him leaving next summer (sadly).

Ironically the only time most Ipswich fans will have watched him (i.e. against us) he's always been very good - especially that game in May in the PL. He did well against us at King Power the season before and unlucky not to score a couple; and came on around the time Phillips got a red at Portman Road as Leicester tore us apart for the last 20 minutes

He isn't great to be honest, certainly nowhere near prem quality and haven't seen anything yet to suggest he is going to be top champ striker this season.

Hey Joe, Can you see us bringing him in plus +1 winger? I personally can't with Ogebene, Clarke, Philogene and Burns coming back but could be wrong. So I think that is where the concern is from some. If this was a early July signing fair enough. However, we are 10 days out, count me underwhelmed if it ends up being just him and a player we hadn't been linked with but was on his way to Birmingham for medical that end up being the main or only additions behind the forwards. Not that McAteer has signed or Egili is confirmed as not coming but it just seems a lot of false hope for our financial clout at this level. This one feels like it would have been done ages ago if a squad filler.

Kasey McAteer on 13:52 - Aug 21 by JakeITFC | Replacing Omari is hard because of the level right (he was brilliant) but in terms of attributes we do kind of have that (Philogene especially seems to be as close as you could get). Broadhead is a floaty type that we don’t really seem to have room for atm, but in terms of position is probably closest to Szmodics/Akpom. Therefore I think our business should be about filling gaps in terms of capability or attributes as opposed to just signing a player that is in the same position or whatever. For me we are missing a good right winger, a good forward in the same mould as Hirst and then some sort of wildcard forward option who could be central or wild (and maybe costs a lot of money). |
Agree completely. I think our squad building could be quite fluid too. McKenna said he had a couple of roles in mind for Akpom. I think most have assumed he will be a 10 option but at the moment, with the Azon deal falling through, he must very much be our second choice 9? Egeli seems flexible, been a wide player but he played a lot of youth football as a striker (and scored a lot of goals) and definitely fits your wildcard tag. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'd be very surprised if just McAteer - we are really short in that position and lost 2 further players this window (on top of Enciso returning on loan) In recent years McKenna has liked 8 for that 3 behind the striker and 3 for the top role so 11. We've got 9 there now, which includes Ali who is likely off; and think with Burns on way back from ACL and Ogbene still finding feet then we need a few more. My prediction would be something like this L10 - Philogene, Clarke, [Szmodics] R10 - Szmodics, Akpom, Chaplin RW - Ogbene, McAteer, [Burns], [Clarke] ST - Hirst, [Akpom] So to me feels, even with McAteer, that we are definitely short of a versatile impace player who can come in off the right like Omari did in 23/24, plus can play along the front line - and at least 1 striker, possibly 2

Let's hope whoever we do get in is an exciting statement buy at this level. As we have cash in abundance for this league. McAteer with his experience would be a good compliment for Egili if it takes him a while to get to grips with the Championship. I just hope we are not working our way down the list here.

Kasey McAteer on 12:30 - Aug 21 by billlm | We buy other 15-20 million pound players with no divine right to be great, this kid has great stats and an international, Seems to me we're player trading on the cheap banking the money, |
that is exactly what we are doing, we are a business to make money for owners. So buy cheap and sell for profit, we did it last year with young english players and two of them have come good and made us profit. Two of them haven't so we are stuck with them. It's not about really improving the team its about making money and getting the point where the owners can sell for large profit, which they are trying to do now.

Kasey McAteer on 11:58 - Aug 21 by FrimleyBlue | No I get that. Many players have improved. But at the level we were at I wouldn't say any of those weren't good players when they signed.. KM turned those into something more but for me those who maybe came to us as average players remained average players. Ahadme Edwards Palmer I know nothing of this leicester player. But just wondered if there's enough there to be a burns. Chaplin type improvement potential or if hed simply fall into the can't be improved pot. |
But burns and chaplin haven't really improved that much! Burns a bit but he is mid championship player at best and so is chaplin.
