Kasey McAteer on 11:38 - Aug 21 by SuffolkPunchFC | Would that be the 'top growing talent' that you posted about being too big of a risk? So you don't want Egeli because he's unproven, expensive and a risk, and you don't want McAteer either. Somewhat contrary... |
Please show me where I said it would be too big of a risk? I said it would be a high risk high reward deal.. maybe quote me correctly next time.

Kasey McAteer on 11:42 - Aug 21 by homer_123 | OK - here goes and it might be controversial: Burns, Chappers and Morsy. All 'massively' improved as players under KM - I'm picking the obvious three here. But you can add a host of others. |
It would be much quicker to list the ones who haven't improved under him.

There's a huge difference between having an opinion, and claiming the worlds coming to an end due to a link. Considered opinion : "I'm not sure I've seen enough from McAteer for him to be good enough for us. Hope we get someone better." Emotive overreaction : "This is a sh!t signing - we're doomed recruiting at this level"

Kasey McAteer on 11:38 - Aug 21 by PhilTWTD | I'm just speculating, but perhaps, more experience in the Championship and above would obviously be a plus for McAteer. I thought he was very good against us in the game at the end of last season. |
He was, he was excellent.

That is true, but was thinking more generally in terms of additions across the frontline. That is an additional tick for him.

Kasey McAteer on 11:35 - Aug 21 by TownieRob | He has two goal contributions (1 goal + 1 assist) in club football in 2024/ 2025 season and you guessed it, the goal was against us in May. An Assist in Dec v West Ham to accompany. Just checked the replies to the news of it. LCFC fans seem overjoyed. "Take the money and run.." "Sell, sell, sell.." "OMG YES" "Theres no way someone wants him, accept and run Leicester" If this is attacking the transfer window then I wouldnt want to see a conservative or cautious approach! Still not sure that contradicts any of those things you said. "Calibre of players makes it harder as there's prem interest". We've seen exactly that with Hackney, presumably that's what he's waiting for and the reason he's not already in Ipswich player. Players with a high ceiling, we've been reliably linked with a 19 year old Norwegian, a 21 year old Spaniard, Cajuste who we will still feel has a lot of developing to do. Matusiwa is a player McKenna thinks has PL potential. McAteer meets that definition himself at 23 and with PL and International experience.
Kasey McAteer on 11:47 - Aug 21 with 1286 views | itfcsuth | Yes, good for me - I like him, obviously if the numbers are right, as always. Thought we would look at him, although never felt Leicester would sell him to us.

I personally had us down to sign +1 even before the departures of Hutchinson and Broadhead - mainly due to Burns and Ogbene injuries - so you could make a case for 2 now, having signed Akpom.

Kasey McAteer on 11:41 - Aug 21 by tractorboy1978 | How ruthless will we be with those that are injured though? Townsend won't be in. Doubt Clarke will. Doubt Burns will. That brings us to 21 (excluding Button) before any business is done by my calculations. [Post edited 21 Aug 11:43]

Burns is due back midway through the first half of the season as Kieran outlined last week, so I don't think he'd be left out. We'll also need a third keeper and not much point in signing Button if we're going to leave him out. Surprised we did sign a keeper of his age though, thought Williamson or Gray might have been viewed as ready for the role.

Indeed, look at how Ladapo expanded his game for example. McAteer isn't an exciting prospect but hardly a dreadful signing. We are also at the stage where we need to start getting some players in.

Must admit the keeper situation confused me, taking up a squad place (presumably) on Button. Very unlikely he'll play a minute of football, and if he does I would still question if he's of a much higher level than Gray, who is 20 now. Not saying he's ready, but he's very unlikely to need to be over the next 23 games to Jan. Bit of a % game with that call.

Believe we enquired about Pierce Charles at Shef Wed earlier in the window.

Call me negative but we've known all summer that Hutchinson would most likely be leaving. Why are we still assessing our options a week before the deadline? This should've been crystal clear weeks ago.

No I get that. Many players have improved. But at the level we were at I wouldn't say any of those weren't good players when they signed.. KM turned those into something more but for me those who maybe came to us as average players remained average players. Ahadme Edwards Palmer I know nothing of this leicester player. But just wondered if there's enough there to be a burns. Chaplin type improvement potential or if hed simply fall into the can't be improved pot.

Kasey McAteer on 11:37 - Aug 21 by Herbivore | He's played a fair amount of football over the last two years for someone that is apparently not good enough for them. The whingebags were drooling over Leicester's squad on the opening weekend and opining how they wished our bench was as strong as Leicester's. Now we're linked with one of their bench/occasional starters, suddenly they're crap. |
I made a post about Leicester's squad looking strong ( which it is at this level ) and a few other posters agreed, I didn't see anybody 'drooling' over it so not sure why you are pushing that narrative. For the record I also don't think McAteer is crap, although to be honest I haven't seen enough of him to form an opinion. As with all signings we make I would reserve judgement until I had seen him play at least 10 times for us. We have seen many times before somebody that other teams fans say is useless, turning out to be exactly what we need.

We are in the exact position that I never thought we’d be in under MAs leadership. It’s been sloppy, slow. He’s not filled me with confidence that he’s a man in control of the current situation. Which is miles from the aggressive nature (I think) we’ve seen from him RE recruiting. Is he tired? Too many plates being spun? One thing that has changed massively, is us now expecting him to produce, as opposed to before all being a little ‘wowed’ by the project and how it took off. One thing is for sure, if we don’t go up this season, I don’t think he’ll be very popular

I think you need to understand that the likes of Chappers and Burns have spent the majority of their careers in L1 and L2 (with a small smattering of Champ football). KM has been a Champ/ Prem player - so his level is higher than when Burns, Chappers et al joined us. So to answer your questions, yes KM has taken so called 'lesser' players and made them better. Does he fit that mould - it's not for us to say but KM. Again, I suspect he's been on our radar and KM will know all about him and if he does join, then clearly KM sees something in him.

….nothing more, nothing less. Assume he’d share right wing responsibilities with Ogbene. It’s pretty uninspiring and hopefully just a back up option if the deal for the Norge wunderkid falls through (which I expect it will).

If he’s the Omari replacement it’s a shocker. If he’s a broady replacement then it’s not as bad. Would still rather Broady tho.
