This really is…. on 07:11 - Aug 22 by Bloots | ….an utter shambles of a transfer window isn’t it? Even if we get to a decent position by the end of it (which I don’t think we will) then questions really need to be asked about the whole way we have gone about it. I appreciate things don’t always go to plan and that player decisions to stay, go, join or not join are going to change but we seem to have been constantly “chasing our tails” for months now. There’s just been no method to it at all. |
I don’t think it’s any different to any transfer window before except fans expectations are different and more and more of what used to happen behind the scenes is being leaked on social media, and with our recent history we become a club linked with far more players. On social media any form of enquiry made becomes more than it probably is which then feeds a wider media and fan frenzy. Everyone on here (rightly) has an opinion but the interpretation of what is good or bad and the volume of noise and misinformation is no doubt skewing whatever truth lies behind the club strategy. We know we remain in the hunt for another midfielder, and another striker but have made some good signings so far. We have a strong championship squad and McKenna has shown what he can do with young players so the likes of Humphreys, Barbrook, Boniface and possibly Mendel and Ayinde may start to play roles in the team. The media chaos around the transfer window now seems to eclipse anything else football related through August, then the circus starts again at end of the year for another month. Personally I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow. [Post edited 22 Aug 7:46]

Sebastian Caceres… on 06:18 - Aug 22 by Westover | Both the management and the coaching staff prefer that Sebastián stays, as he is a key player and an undisputed starter; regarding the player's decision, he is not fully convinced to leave, since we are less than a year away from the World Cup and if he fails to be a starter at the team he joins, he could lose his spot in the Uruguayan National Team, where he is currently the starting defender. Another detail is his personal life, it is currently known that he is in a relationship with a very famous Mexican 'streamer', which makes him want to stay in Mexico to remain close to that person. But in any case, we will have to wait because if an irresistible offer comes along, it would be difficult for both the player and the club to decline it. That is not looking good. |
The relationship with his girlfriend, Alana "Aranalarana" Flores, is far from insignifiant. Apart from being a hugely successful streamer/influencer Alana has recently uploaded (now viral) photos of her bump, resulting from her relationship with new boyfriend Sebastian Caceres. Alana, despite being a successful player and president of her local football team and 4-times winner of streamer v streamer boxing bouts, claims also to be a victim of a series of deep fake images of a private nature. Our target will either be staying with Alana or running away. All of the above is very publicly available online information.

This really is…. on 07:21 - Aug 22 by Kieran_Knows | To be honest, I don’t mind our approach in terms of the ambition we’re showing - but always felt like those types of deals wouldn’t come to fruition until Prem sides had sorted their sides out, which doesn’t normally happen to the last week. I think we wasn’t prepared however for the likes of Morsy, Broadhead and seemingly Woolfie wanting to leave the club, and had probably expected Burgess and Tuanzebe to renew, so maybe that took us by surprise? Texters gets pelters on here for it, but he’s absolutely right in that we have had months - about 6 months or so - to get ourselves another striker in the building. We knew back in Feb we was relegated, Delap had even spoke to clubs before the season had finished and we still started the season with Al-Hamadi as 2nd choice. No slant from me on Al-Hamadi, not his fault the club has moved at a rate of knots beyond his ability. That’s the shambles part of it for me. Still, at least we had the boxing and Ed at PR over the summer. |
I struggle to believe it would have been a surprise to the club that some of those played wanted to leave. Maybe Morsy, maybe Tuanzebe. But not Broadhead, Wolfy or Burgess. Two of them have seen their game time significantly reduced in favour of players who have not yet actually proved themselves to be any better, but are simply ahead of them based on reputation and price tag. The other plays in the same position as the club captain and knows he isn't going to replace him unless injured, and knows McKenna always plays a left footer on the left side.

The frustration is that…. on 07:24 - Aug 22 by Bloots | ….we should, as a “parachute” club, be operating from a position of power in this league. Instead we appear to be totally surprised by everything that is happening. We should know which players are realistic options to buy, but more importantly we should know which of our own players are going to leave. Just over a week left and we are still looking at plugging unexpected gaps in the squad without addressing the gaping holes that have been obvious for months. I might send them a letter of serious concern. |
Well quite, striker and central midfield have been obvious gaps since relegation was clear. That we still need a big signing for each is pretty bloody careless. The other bits look less of a problem to me, and we were always going to be finishing off the squad close to the deadline given the way the big PL clubs dominate the market. If we get the first two in and an Omari replacement in the next week then we've done ok but not spectacularly. Less than that and it's wasting a dominant position.

This really is…. on 07:26 - Aug 22 by NthQldITFC | That's just a recipe for chaotic yo-yoing. There has to be a balance between the two approaches. |
Surely that balance is in the players like O’Shea, Greaves, Philogene, Davis, Johnson, Cajuste, Szmods, Hirst etc who all have a season of Premier league experience under them? Our starting eleven, by and large large, is good enough for a top 2 finish but we are woefully short on back up and players who can come in for the final 15/20 minutes when our starters are tired. Nothing wrong in bolstering the squad with seasoned top end Championship players who may not be good enough to play in the Premier League should we be promoted. Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton were yo yo teams until they were financially strong enough to stay in the Premier League.

On the striker front it's been similar to last summer where we pursued someone Broja/Azon - eventually got terms agreed and then got nervous by something seen in the medical. Both players had played in their preseasons so you could argue from the clubs perspective they thought that both were over their injury issues but they must have known there was a risk around this area.

We have one of the biggest budgets in the league without any doubt. And we haven't signed a single number 9, three games into the season. Surely we all know that AAH (bless him) is clearly not good enough for a promotion chasing team? We've also got rid of our whole midfield before replacing them. We've also have multiple longstanding players wanting to leave to get game time, which we didn't even have in the premier league, when some of them knew they wouldn't play a lot. Morsy, Burgess, Broady, now Woolfie (not counting our obvious premier league quality players: Delap and Omari). I would say those factors set this window apart from others. The last time we had clearly the biggest budget in the league was in league one when we had good recruitment (and finished second, which was fantastic, even though it underachieved when compared with our budget).

Considering what I have seen in the 45+ years I have been supporting this club, there’s far more to be positive about than negative. I firmly believe that you should not let perfect be the enemy of good, and to appreciate what has been achieved rather than focus on the might have been. I think we have a good squad that needs some key positions protected in depth, but I also believe that we have to be bringing in the right players who both improve and fit the squad culturally and from a skills perspective. Rebuilding a team is far harder than building a team.

She's also been asked directly if/when they're getting married and if she'd follow him to Europe. On the marriage front they're looking at after the next world cup and she was very positive about following him wherever he ended up even if it was the other side of the world. Just need to get Fabio involved to do a bit of boxing content with her for her streaming channel and it's job done......

Yeah, it’s pretty difficult rebuilding a football team after relegation, but considering everything we’ve still got a pretty good squad. I’m going to enjoy the football, not worry about the transfer window.

We screwed our position of strength completely in 2001 through buying the wrong players just to plug gaps. It’s a fine balance.

Yep. People are quick to jump on those who are expressing serious concerns about this window but McKenna isn’t exactly hiding his disappointment. We have one fit striker and 3 fit centre midfielders. One who’s had no pre season, one who is just plainly not good enough. Ashton made the point that getting relegated earlier was beneficial to getting business done, but I just don’t know how we’ve gone in to a season like this.

True enough Texters. Should have been sooner but I've no doubt that a quality striker will be in the door by the time the window finishes, as well as another CM, plus a few more.

I don’t see how KM is happy with the situation at all (of course he’ll not say that out loud) And MA needs to consider the long terms effects of things like this, as in would KM think twice if another club came calling, would he look at this window as being let down.
