My thoughts on yesterday... 11:12 - Aug 24 with 2281 views | bluesym | Having slept on it,im a bit torn. I try to be level headed when it comes to Town. First half, was a very flat display,it was like a pre-season friendly. We had lots of the ball and looking back created a couple of good chances,Hirst has to ht the target at the very least with his. 2nd half- signs we were looking more like old selves. Better use of the ball, passages of play,we pretty much played the game in their half. I think if we beat Derby Saturday,a weight will come off our shoulders and wouldn't be surprised to see us go on a run. Also, let's be clear here,Preston were gash and bar the soft penalty they had nothing at all. They played like a lower league side in a cup game, which as we've all seen before can get you the win. (Plymouth v Liverpool last yr in the cup) The Dutch boy is getting better each week by the way. Laughably written off by some people after a couple of games, but he is getting better as he settles in. I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't a touch concerned, but,I dont think we are far away from clicking either. Couple more solid additions next week and I think we will be fine. Also, cracking little social club we parked at 20 mins walk from the ground, very welcoming and a nice couple of pints before the game went down a treat. [Post edited 24 Aug 14:54]

Hmm. I have to be honest, for the first time yesterday I was really concerned about Palmer. Im not expecting him to be like prime Pirlo on the ball, but he is so bad with it at his feet that its so detrimental to how we want to play. I'd also be inclined to give Kipre a chance ahead of Greaves. He just doesn't fill me with any confidence.

This on both counts. But how the heck are we in a position where we probably need to sign another keeper?

To be fair, I get your point. Hladky and Burgess would probably get in ahead of them atm. But they are decent players who will be solid enough. [Post edited 24 Aug 11:22]

As Fergal Sharky will tell you, a good keeper these days is hard to find. Especially one that possesses all the attributes that we require.

Yep,I think that's fair. I dont expect it to be a problem we solve this window unfortunately.

My thoughts on yesterday... on 11:37 - Aug 24 with 1582 views | MK1 | Well put. I am not overly concerned by our form, just that it seems like those with a price tag are trying too hard to impress. Ashley Young has to start at RB for a start. He is the experience we need back there. Azor and Jens have to start in CM. Taylor is fine as a squad player at this level, but he ain't good enough if we want to be top 6. Davis needs a regular starter in front of him so they can build a playing relationship with. I think that should be Clarke. He showed glimpses of his quality yesterday, but we really need his Sunderland form. He should be gabbing games like yesterday by the neck and forcing teams into difficult decisions. I would switch Philogene to the right. With Young behind him, I think those 2 could form a very good partnership. Chaplin is our 10 at this level. I want Akpom to start there, but at the moment we need someone with Chaplin's experience of the role in this side. Hirst starts up top obviously. We need to start having a more settled starting X1 and with partnerships growing all over the pitch, there is no doubt we have the quality to be top 6. Just need to see them playing as a team and forgetting their price tags.

Burgess gets better and better the longer he’s been gone.

He does seem like an odd signing, probably the closest to a panic buy we've done. I do think we'd be in a better place had we kept faith in Muric (when he was back from injury). On Preston, I thought Small and Pol Valentin were very good.

He was a rock in the promotion season. Remember how much he was missed when on international duty?! Be serious man.

I think you have misread his post. I think he means that we miss Burgess greatly and should have kept and played him. That's how I am reading it anyway.

No, he isn’t right. Burgess was what he’s always been, a solid Championship player at best. Would he have done well for us, probably, which is why McKenna wanted to keep him. Is he good enough to displace Greaves, or better than Kipre, McKenna obviously didn’t think so, which is why he’s left. On balance I’d take McKenna’s view every time.

I understand the argument but I do think the O'Shea/Burgess partnership looked far more solid, against better players, than O'Shea/Greaves has at either level. At the same time I think Woolfenden/Greaves looked a better partnership (again, in the Premier League) than O'Shea/Greaves. There's something about them which isn't working as a unit - particularly in possession.

Chaplin frustrates me as much as some of the others to be honest. Everybody keeps calling for him to start but all he has done so far this season is continually give the ball away, as well as miss chances he would have taken in the two promotion seasons. I feel that he, like a lot of the others is just trying too hard at the moment and needs to relax a bit and focus on the basics.
My thoughts on yesterday... on 12:37 - Aug 24 with 1188 views | skinnybob72 | We have two big problems at the moment, we are not creating anything and we always look like we have a mistake in us at the back. It's not a good combination but if we can start putting the ball in the net we don't have to worry as much about the latter.

He was better than Greaves last season. Forced his way back in as a result. Still a better defender and better on the ball.

You obviously believe your judgement is superior to McKenna’s - as I said, I’ll take McKenna’s over some random on the internet
My thoughts on yesterday... on 13:13 - Aug 24 with 984 views | seblue78 | Appreciate the start has been underwhelming, but I think the level heads amongst us can see it’ll be fine. It’s clear that KM is trying to make us more prem ready so we don’t face the problems we had last time around. A bit like he made us champ ready in league 1. And that obviously takes time and patience. With the right additions through the door next week 🤞🏼, more game time for the relationships to continue developing, and a first win under our belt, I’d be confident we’ll start to motor. Let’s see where we are come late Sept / Oct before we start the doom and gloom.

My thoughts on yesterday... on 14:48 - Aug 24 with 717 views | Joey_Joe_Joe_Junior | No I don’t agree with looking like our old selves at all, we were allowed to have all the ball and barely created a thing, couldn’t break them down at all, could beat them out wide and were not fast enough at moving the ball into dangerous areas. For playing wingers, second half, I don’t see any dangerous balls into the box. Set pieces were also a non event. Of course with playing in their half you’ll create the odd half chance but that came the bounce of the ball after then blocking shots or putting in tackles, Preston really limited us from creating. Very labored. [Post edited 24 Aug 14:49]
