I think it is a position we need to cover. If something happens to Matusiwa we have no natural choice to replace him. Send Humphreys out on loan to create space and have a five of Matusiwa, Downes, Cajuste, Nunez and Taylor for the season. If not Downes then someone else. [Post edited 31 Aug 2025 16:02]

Watching Downes on recent EFL highlights, he was wretched. "Downes giving the ball away again" said the voiceover. I know he may have just been having a mare, but he seems to me to be yet one more player who has grown by not being visible. The mighty West Ham jettisoned him. He's good at what he does, but his limitations are more pronounced than some like to suggest. | |

Agreed. Every time I’ve seen him play he runs around a lot, but doesn’t affect the game very much. Is it another case of everyone wanting him back because he’s one of our old boys? |  | | |
