We're doomed!
On my way into Tunbridge Wells this morning, I came across about a dozen England flags on lamp posts on a half-mile stretch of one of the main roads.
Tunbridge Wells was one of the few places which was neither a city or university town and which voted to Remain.
But flags at half-mast? What's that all about? It suggests to me to that someone important has died.
And why England flags? Do these people not think that the Scots, Welsh or Northern Irish are British? [Post edited 5 Sep 12:23]

We have Union flags on many too. All at half mast. Either they pre-empted the Duchess of Kent's death or it was as high as they could get them.
I did wonder whether they could have been celebrating the Tour of Britain but I guess they aren't. I am amazed no one has made a mint from taking them down to re-sell. |  |

When I visited Ireland I had the same mixed reactions that I have of it here. It is impressive the patriotism involved but sad the violent nationalism and all the history that lies behind it too. | |

Nothing remotely patriotic about them at all. They looked cheap and tacky and when they are faded and weathered will look even worse.
Some of the St George flags had messages scrawled on them. You couldn't read them but they looked parricularly sh1ite.
Nothing shouts patriotism more than a cheap flag with some inane sh1te scrawled all over it.

In Wales too unfortunately. The anti-foreigner protests around here have had more than their fair share of Welsh flags. It’s a new one on me. Maybe Welsh racists have always used their flag but I’ve not seen it before. They’re not the brightest though, so copycat approaches mirroring what’s happening in England are to be expected. |  |

The odd thing is that nationality and immigration policy are determined on a UK-wide basis, so really it's only the Union Jack people should be using to show their Britishness and to sock it those that are not, or are not sufficiently, British. [Post edited 7 Sep 22:16]
