When an egomaniac is running a business.... 16:00 - Sep 1 with 3478 views | Bloots | ....with nobody controlling him, this is what happens. It may work, but it doesn't feel right to me. In what should have been a season where we built from a position of strength that we have never been in before, we appear to have spiralled into a "sh1t or bust" position. It has to work or the yanks will be headhunting very quickly, and you couldn't really blame them.

When an egomaniac is running a business.... on 16:05 - Sep 1 with 2670 views | Reuser_is_God | I love how we are spending 10s of millions of pounds on players that are, in no way whatsoever, better than those they’re supposedly an upgrade on. Oh well, feel like pure sh1t just want 23/24 back.

When an egomaniac is running a business.... on 16:07 - Sep 1 with 2547 views | FrimleyBlue | Absolutely feels like we're just pissng money about and getting rid of the 'lesser' players just to have a big shiny expense book that increases the value of the club for one reason only. I honestly can't see how ripping a squad up in 18 months is the best thing for this club utter garbage

....from a financial perspective, probably. But there is nobody controlling him from a football perspective. If this current "phase" fails on the pitch, then financial issues will start to kick in. Then and only then will his superiors step in.

When an egomaniac is running a business.... on 16:10 - Sep 1 with 2497 views | blueoutlook | MA should be kept in check. This has been a quite ridiculous transfer window. We have appeared to be floundering around in the dark. No real direction and spending a fortune on players who are no better and in some cases worse than what we had. KM better get this right. And if I hear the word GEL one more time…………… How the hell Ashton was allowed to be CEO and run everything should never happen. He needs someone over seeing him. He is power mad that man ! Gamechanger get a grip before it’s too late!! Ridiculous ridiculous business this summer.

It’s sad to say but we all knew that season was the peak of pure enjoyment. Even if we go up this year, it won’t be the same. It’s like the heart and soul of that team is gone now. Completely gone. It’s hirst left and that’s it.

The annoying thing is it's so close to a perfect window. Keep Ogbene, don't buy McAteer. I get Woolfenden wanting to go, but Caceres should be coming in - or I would accept McGuiness. Not have Baggott as fourth option. And we need another CM, so Taylor can be sold or Humphreys sent out on loan, to compete or cover for Matusiwa. Yes, we have issues with club developed players but that's an issue we've caused in house. I guess my preference would be sell Taylor and keep Humphreys to get round that. A better keeper would be nice but greedy. So keeping Ogbene and Chaplin, not signing McAteer but bringing in Caceres/McGuinness, plus selling Taylor and replacing him with someone if the Matusiwa mould and we'd be there. So close. But as it is it feels like no cigar.

Do you think Sunderland are saying that about their team from last year after two wins in August already? The overhaul was needed it just depends if we’ve got it right. I think we messed up the replacements more than the outgoings but this summer has been better on that front than a lot of the awful 2024 business.

When an egomaniac is running a business.... on 16:26 - Sep 1 with 2198 views | BlueForYou | Is Ashton reverting to Bristol City mode?? Mentioned this a week ago, in my opinion he's not been the same since Mike O'Leary retired. We desperately needed a new Chairman last season. Ashton gets involved in too much, appreciate his unbounding energy but if this transfer window is his doing, he'd better hope his gamble pays off. We all had better hope!

When an egomaniac is running a business.... on 16:31 - Sep 1 with 2087 views | Bent_double | Could be wrong, but didn't Burnley do a very similar thing last season? Didn't do them any harm if that was the case. But, fingers crossed, because at the moment I've no idea if we've got a cohesive team that can beat Sheff U.

When an egomaniac is running a business.... on 16:39 - Sep 1 with 1988 views | peterleeblue | Blimey the Brexit disease of divisiveness and entitlement is alive and well on TWTD. We have had a sticky start to the season and its........ blame, blub blame, blub blame!! Mark Ashtons turn today!! Ok we got promoted too soon and made a mess of the premier league. We all know why. We are outrageously fortunate financially (more than we have ever been) and we are trying to find our sea legs at the new level. Football is a brutal business for the players - Its a short career and futures need securing. How would anyone on here feel if they couldn't see past say the next 12 months pay cheques and had no idea what part of Europe they may be working in. We can now settle with still excellent people at the helm. Onwards and Upwards.

....it's having an opinion as to how we could maximise the fruits of our labour from the last 3 years. My opinion is that we have gone totally overboard with the ins and outs this summer. If you think different then feel free to offer your view, but to just dismiss people that you don't agree with as "hysterical" doesn't really add much. My opinion of our CEO/MD/Chairman/Recruitment Director has been the same since he joined, it's on record.

You never gave it a chance. Went instantly miserable. I really don't get it. Even not, are you not going to give the new squad a chance? Needlessly negative and taking shots people who have served us well.

....I thought we'd stay up last year, I've said on here how wrong I was. It became apparent quite early that our signings were overpriced, and weren't up to keeping us in the Prem. But I was happy enough that we were building a team to bounce straight back and then be in a stronger position when we got promoted again. This doesn't feel like we are building a team, this feels like we are a kid in a sweetshop with all his Christmas money and we are gonna spend it all in one go until we throw up on the shopkeepers feet. Do you think it was in KMs plans to start Chaplin ahead of SS and Akpom and then loan him out 2 days later? It's OK to question these things.

Maybe it was to give Chaplin a PR farewell, SS doesn’t appear to be a like for like at no 10 and Akpom probably needs a little longer to integrate our into our system. Are you really suggesting that KM wasn’t aware that Chappers was going out on loan

It is ok to question things. It's also ok to think logically and think Akpom is probably the new #10 and would have started if he had been here a bit longer and was fully fit. Then we have SS on the bench so we have two good options. Just try and enjoy the season. People who followed the club up and down the country now seem utterly sick of it and we're in a much better position than we could have ever dreamt to be under Evans. This squad, on paper, is very good. Now it's over to KM to prove yet again he really is as good as we say he is.

Think I’m even more concerned if our starting lineup on Saturday was dictated by sentimentality
