But I suppose if it encourages donations, fair enough. I am not inclined to buy the pins anymore. Seems wasteful. Stick to something disposable and ecologically sound....

More money goes to that cause if you just donate straight and give the tat a swerve.

I been a collector for the big RBL collection day at tube stations for the past 5 years and the biggest donations tend to come from people who just get one of the paper ones (which now come with a paper stalk to reduce plastic waste). Someone gave me £100 for a paper poppy once - lovely chap! [Post edited 15 Sep 20:57]

The only reason I could think of is if clubs do have a history of honouring former players or staff who’ve fallen in war. Is that us? It’s not something I’ve ever thought about although there must be some ITFC lost heroes (I vaguely remember an article or maybe post on here years back, but not any details).

Or just buy one enamel badge, without a date, wear that every year but drop some cash into the tin each year.

I just donate as I don’t like the waste either. Re-use a paper one or an enamel pin as the guys above suggest is the way to if you want to wear something. Wearing probably would be the better thing for me to do as it raises awareness, but I’d never find the thing each year.

I have a 100th anniversary pin badge that lives on my coat throughout the year but I also buy the ‘annual’ one for Mrs C. Having done Remembrance Sunday on Horseguards/Whitehall for a lot of years it’s important to me. In addition to remembrance the work RBL and organisations like ABF (I attend a charity dinner for them each year) is important. And let’s face it, they’re not going to get properly supported by any government unless they see a vote in it for themselves. But it’s up to the individual. Nobody should feel pressured into supporting anything if they don’t wish to.
