Missus abroad. A ‘free’ house. What to do? 13:22 - Sep 24 with 3301 views | The_Romford_Blue | So the missus went away yesterday (or 2am this morning to be specific) for a week with her sister and the kids. So I’m home alone (asides from the dog). I’ve got the week working from home to keep an eye on the dog and am already feeling spoilt for choice as to what to do. And by spoilt for choice, I actually mean I’m not entirely sure what I want to do. Seeing as she won’t be here to cook, I’ve got my eye on doing a few of my own favourites (a curry, a bolognese, maybe a fry up one morning). Might get a Chinese in one night maybe. I haven’t really ever lived alone (home, then uni accommodation, then moved in with mates for two years at uni, then home, then in here with the bird). I’m not worried I’ll burn the house down or anything, I am somewhat thinking I’m going to be bored though. I may have to entertain you all more this week on here to pass the time (#ThankYouRommy). But my question for you distinguished gentleman of TWTD, what do you do when the missus leaves and you’re on your ones. And let’s assume I don’t intend to host any orgies.

Missus abroad. A ‘free’ house. What to do? on 18:15 - Sep 24 with 634 views | Churchman | Mrs C has just spent a week river cruising on the Rhine so me and the kitties Cuthy and Ches have had the week to ourselves. The bad news was dealing with funeral arrangements and solicitors about stuff. But aside from that, the weekend was wall to wall football and NFL. Weekdays, walked with my mate two days. Decided to re-watch Sharpe (box set). Haven’t seen it in years and it’s excellent still. Add in Die Hard 2 & 3 plus Dirty Harry, Bullitt (love the car chase) and that was the entertainment. One afternoon /evening beers and a curry with my ski chum and an afternoon drink with my golf buddy. Nosebag: well aside from the curry, I had a kebab. Elephants leg and chips, leftover leg went into a roll for breakfast after nuking it. Decided to try making a meat loaf. Looked great, tasted dreadful. Southern fried chicken strips and salad (from the garden) cheered with potato salad and barbecue sauce was good. Home made chilli was ok too (with baked beans, not the usual chilli ones). Bought some supermarket sausages. They were meant to be special ones. Specially awful as it turned out. Lips and trash in a 4skin. In the bin they went. Ginsters pastie and chips with sweetcorn was alright as was the nuked curry. It’s fair to say culinary dining it wasn’t. I have lived alone and spent plenty of time over the years looking after myself when she’s away, but I really couldn’t be bothered to make the effort this time. Drink? I don’t tend to drink on my own, but made up for it when I went out for curry night and beer afternoon.

Missus abroad. A ‘free’ house. What to do? on 14:19 - Sep 24 by mrfixit426 | A thick cut rib eye steak and cook it on a super hot pan medium rare - crispy on the outside, with a top quality Australian Shiraz, and maybe some chip shop chips. Then settle down and binge Alien: Earth on Disney. Get a week trial if you don't already subscribe. |
Or an Argentinian Malbec... The "get a Free Trial and binge something you want to watch but she wouldn't" is a top drawer suggestion. The best series I have watched in recent years are, in no particular order: Detectorists This Country Breaking Bad Rivals (cheesy, but utterly fun) Better Call Saul Schitt's Creek (it takes about 8 episodes to hit its stride but is then magnificent) All of Simon Reeves' stuff Succession Slow Horses Giri/Haji After the Party Taskmaster Deadwood The Killing The Bridge Or just do what I do and spend endless hours watching the latest repackaged clips of Sean Lock on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, with bits of Joe Wilkinson and Sam Campbell thrown in.
