Amusing as the story is, perhaps I'm being thick but I can't make the times work in my head at all. How did he arrive before the end of the game in Bury St Edmunds if he was nearly 4 hours away? He must have got to Bury bloody early! And if Bury is 3h50 from BSE, his round trip must have been nearly 8 hours!

Some friends, musicians, had a gig in Whitby, N Yorks and booked a B£B. They were walking the streets, after midnight and couldn’t find . They rang them for directions seems there is another Whitby on the Wirral.
Read a few weeks ago about Americans who booked a flight from Rome to Nice.They boarded their flight and wasn’t until the plane landed in Tunis that thry. realised they had made a big mistake.

I was scratching my head wondering why Glemsford and Stansted would cause confusion, but I get it now. Yeah I can imagine a few people have headed to Stanstead rather than Stansted over the years. Certainly no airport there last time I checked, don't even think there's so much as a pub. | | | |

I'd assume, being at a semi pro level, the players are expected to turn up a fair bit early for the match (albeit, at the correct venue!) So perhaps he turned up about 12.30 at Gigg Lane, quickly realised his error and then, without speeding of course, spent 4 hours or so in the car, to arrive about 4.30 at BSE! I thought I was buying tickets to see Gruff Rhys from the Super Fury Animals at the Barbican in York, but i'd actually bought tickets for the Barbican Centre in London.
