I was wondering about Trump. There supporting players with names like DeChambeau, Morikawa and Schaufele. All foreign. Surely ICE should be there dealing with them?

Not really. It shows how well we did to get in the position we were in and how good the US players are as individual golfers. I think most expected us to lose. Not only did we retain the Ryder Cup but we won it away. Great result despite the US making a remarkable fight of it.

You would prefer the injured player to have to concede their match? I can understand that argument.

I’m glad we got to 15 so that match is irrelevant and stops the discussion.

I’d prefer there to be a first reserve but in a tight match it seems an odd rule. Injured tennis players have to concede matches all the time and a half point could have obviously been massive.

Does being up 4-0 at Half Time, having it clawed back to 4-4, then scoring an injury time winner take the gloss off? Fck no!

In most other sports, if a member of your squad is injured, you bring in a reserve That's probably a rule they'll look at [Post edited 29 Sep 17:13]

Not sure if they will, pretty sure America benefited from it in 1991. Just seems odd to me, so glad to get to 15!

I'm not sure the idea of going to a golf tournament with the only possibility of playing any part is if someone in your team gets injured is quite how the game works. I think it is fine as it stands. Clearly there should be some contingency where if a team is clearly taking the mick (e.g. five Europeans claimed to be unable to play), there should be a forfeiture of the point instead of sharing it. I can see an argument for it being a forfeit anyway.

Tennis isn’t a team sport, so there’s no other option. The Ryder Cup is a team event, so a squad / reserve isn’t impossible.

Pretty sure only one player is named - so no possibiity of "taking the mick". Not sure what would happen if more players unable to play but AFAIK you can't just pop to the Post Office and grab some more envelopes.

I suppose you could have a substitute, but then there's the possibility to swap a player out based on bad form rather than injury. Probably preferable to this envelope rule though?

Have you seen what happens if a player has to retire in a match in the Davis Cup? I personally think the rule needs looking at, could have been massive as it was for the US in 91. Luckily had no true impact yesterday.

The envelope rule was brought in back in 79 when the format was changed.
