Anyone got a recommendation? Thinking of getting one for Christmas for the missus.
Looking for one that does a latte as that’s what she drinks. And ideally a hot chocolate option as well but that’s not necessarily a must. Don’t really want to pay more than £400 ish.
Don’t really even know where to start asides from blind googling
I'm no expert but we ended up getting a separate frother - the one that came with our quite expensive De'Longhi not up to much. Might make your budget go a bit further if you buy as two separates as well.
You probably want a couple of things: - Decent grinder (makes a surprising difference) - Espresso machine
I'd go for something like a Delonghi Stilosa for the espresso machine and then a Baratza Encore for the grinder which is well within your budget. Maybe get a decent set of scales as well for measuring out the coffee.
Don't know if the Stilosa comes with the all the bits but you might need to get those too.
I use the DeLonghi bean to cup machine 2nd one we’ve had the 1st got left in the U.K. when we left, it’s used every day, now the crunch bit, if it has an internal milk reservoir & frother how often will that need cleaning/ sanitizing? I know at least one board member here that had a machine of this nature & got so pissed cleaning the milk bit out he gave it up. Our Magnifica model makes a good expresso & I manually add the milk, don’t use the frother for exactly that reason! Horses for courses I guess, I know you can get models that the milk reservoir is removed after use to be stored in a fridge but what about the internal milk system that’s not removed? Maybe someone can add here as to how that bit works.

I got the Ninja a few months ago after my Delonghi packed up, it's a brilliant machine for the price, the only snag is the constant need to empty the water tray, but it makes excellent frothy milk and lovely bean to cup coffee.

Got mine for 419 about 6 months ago and paired with the Butterworth & Sons 100% Espresso 4Bean Blend makes for a coffee better than anything you'll get on the high street, streets ahead in fact.

I got the sage barista express a year ago ..its bean to cup for a beginner you will master it after a short while..beautiful coffee and lovely micro foam milk...the néw coffee machines are too high tech and will be problematic as all computerised..

I have a Delonghi Dedica. It makes a decent espresso if you swap out the pressurised basket, but as others have said, also need a decent grinder. I only have one cup a day, so I use a Timemore hand grinder, but loads of options.
Sage bambino plus is a bargain at 300 - with a decent grinder well in budget. IMHO simpler machines are better and the coffee you make is as good as ones 3 x the price.

Not only have I got loads of suggestions, I’ve got people backing up other good suggestions and links to buy it.
That one looks perfect for us. I can have a hot chocolate and she can have her latte. It’s not gonna cost me a grand so I can get her some other Christmas stuff and its reviews on here and elsewhere are excellent. I’d never heard of it until now. That’ll do me.
Thanks bud.
And thanks all who replied. Very much appreciated.

Hot chocolate? At your age this is the only drinks machine you need:

Agree with all of that except the notion of £1k on Christmas gifts for the Mrs has blown my mind. Fair play but that is off the scale.....isn't it?
This will break your budget, but they do come up with significant discounts at times - and Black Friday is nearly on us. I highly recommend the Gaggia Anima Prestige for coffee.
Keep the hot chocolate separate, and add a Hotel Chocotate Velvetiser later, for the best home made chocolate drink you’ll ever have.

Great choice.
Most important thing to remember is buy coffee locally roasted and not from the supermarket. It sounds pretentious but the quality difference (by that I mean taste) is massive. It’s almost like two different drinks.
