To a certain extent hate preacher Farage is right in the sense that racism was a lot more prevalent back then, than what it is now. And his supporters won’t care at all, and will dismiss all allegations as ‘banter’ or ‘everyone told jokes like that back then’.
But even in the 70s it was not acceptable to tell Jewish classmates that Hitler was right - Farage knows full well what he is, his supporters know what they are, but they will be totally unapologetic about it.
I do wish however that the BBC, Sky and ITV concentrate more investigative work on hate preachers Farage voting record, his attendance as a MP as well as MEP - plus his income from Russian TV.
The man is a self-serving Charlaton.

His supporters should care a bit more about how this is playing out. Much like Farage is finding out there are consequences for racist behaviour, surprisingly from questioning by the BBC who seem to have found a backbone, his supporters are slowly finding out that following in his footsteps has consequences for them too. Their councillors, most voted in during the last local elections in May, are dropping like flies with over 40 having left or been suspended. Now it’s the turn of Staffordshire CC leader Ian Cooper who’s the latest Reform public figure revealed to be a rancid racist.
It’s a racist organisation, led by a racist (and a former Russian asset, with questions still to be answered by the remaining leadership) and populated by racists. Anyone who supports them is bound to open themselves up for accusations of approving of racism at best or of being a racist themselves. |  |

So you understood there were lines not to be crossed? I think most of us did back then. Or in other words, Farage’s defence of ‘we were all massive racists back then’ does’t really wash.
It’s a relief to see this gaining traction. I find it bizarre what cuts through and what doesn’t. The accusations of potentially being compromised by Russia didn’t cut through. His relentless attacks against the EU and NATO memberships that we benefited hugely from didn’t cut through. Yet when it comes to playground name calling, he’s finally facing questions. It’s one of the lesser accusations he should be facing (albeit not acceptable). It’s a bit like Johnson getting away with all sorts of hugely damaging and serious stuff, but the Downing Street parties ended up being his undoing. | |

Eh? No one is talking about the quality of the show. Even early OFAH has some very dodgy and forced race based jokes because that was the norm at the time.
It doesn’t mean people don’t look back now and think it’s weird that was normal. Much like most of history.

I'm more than a little surprised that the financial backers of Faragists politics haven't found a mouthpiece with a cleaner history than Nigel.
While I grant you his politics lends it'self to a certain...unsavoury past, it can't be too hard to find a current right wing loon who doesn't have quite the baggage of a Farage.
That, to me, is the real risk ahead of the next election. They find someone who really can reach across to the middle. |  |

Yeah it’s odd, but then it’s a bit of a cult. I’m thankfully out of the loop now I’m not on social media and am increasingly ignoring the media too. It’s a breath of fresh air, although I get a feel for what’s going on through this place. A good example of what you’re talking about would be DJR’s posts about the attacks on Reeves around her chess accompaniments as a teenager. Absolutely crackers. You’d think there’d be enough to take her to task over around her professional record, but apparently that’s not what the Reform types are interested in. It’s very odd. | |
