Expansion of the ground seems a great idea on 14:04 - Dec 18 by Churchman

Our current ground is too small when we are successful. This has been proven.

It’s 2025. The current ground with the exception of the lower section of the West Stand is completely changed from when I first entered it as a child. Where’s the ‘tradition’ in that? There isn’t any. There is just change. It’s the way of the world.

You might want just a football club and the ground used 23 times a year. We had that under Evans for 14 years. Joyous wasn’t it. That old tradition dirt on your trousers sitting on a seat with a rusty frame. The stench of the fetid bogs, East stand with its narrow gloomy stairs and seats where your shins are jammed against the seat in front unless you are a child or a dwarf. Floodlights with half the bulbs out. Ahhh, the good old days when the purchase of a tin of paint was seen as an upgrade.

Alternatively, how about accepting that unless you progress and embrace change you will go backwards as we had done after 2002 and before 2021. How about understanding that if you build something decent it’ll attract more people.

When Sunderland moved from Roker Park to SoL, their attendances rocketed. I wouldn’t expect that here, but I do think better facilities and an appropriate capacity would attract more people, especially those that can only make the odd game. And for those that already attend, how can better facilities be a bad thing?

Modernisation is a constant requirement and we need more capacity to keep up too. These things go together and also make financial sense to nail them at the same time anyway.

Imagine where we would be if the Pioneer, North and Churchman stand upper tiers hadn’t been done?

Tickets are available for every game this season, except Norwich, however if you have a new family wanting to attend, it is still very hard to get 4 seats together, that are not restricted view.

Mostly singles and restricted view. We need to be able to offer decent seats to individuals and groups.

25k there last night as we reach our 6th successive home win. But we can definitely fill 40k seats!

Bristol left about 1500 seats empty, so only 2000 down at a time of year that's a struggle for a lot of families, so I think it's safe to say we'd exceed 30k most matchess if we had the extra seats. And legroom (the side stands are so awful for it)

Less restricted views, easier availability, capacity to donate tickets to schools/clubs etc, space within the ground to use it year round, providing seating that’s comfortable for anyone with legs (Cobbold Stand), better facilities for supporters on a match day.

A better environment does attract more people. There’s a limit to what we can get, crowd wise, but by and large, the capacity is too small.

I’ve always thought 33-35k would be enough but I doubt that’d justify the cost. What to do? I’m sure they’re thinking it through and I’m guessing it’ll be some years before there’s any serious redevelopment.

Its impressive tbh, to be so creative in finding a negative angle to grumble about.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Why would he want a beer and chat with you? You come across as a total bell end.

I don't think we'll press the green light on the cobbold redevelopment until we have sustained a couple of seasons in the PL - tickets were hot sheet in the PL - when we get back there for good - the demand will be there once again.

That stand needs a redevelopment, even if capacity didn't increase.

Exactly, I don't think I've ever left the house thinking, you know what, I really fancy a conversation with an over negative child"

It boils down to whether the club plans for failure or success.

If the plan is for us to spend 20 years in this division again, then absolutely the increased capacity will be unused, but that's a hell of a defeatist attitude.

Quite. The plan is to get and stay in the PL. Ground expansion matches that plan. It really is that simple.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Some very good points there. The point about improving the fan experience (new Cobbold Stand) is important. Reasonable or even good leg-room, adequate and clean loos for M & F (& others), lifts for disabled fans & more wheelchair spaces, big bar areas with a bit of seating & street food could well increase demand beyond expectations.

Yes and the complaint lacks any context- we have an enormous catchment area and a great opportunity to build the fanbase which takes years. Our barren period under Evan’s saw crowds fall to like 14k so we’ve pretty much doubled the attendance under Gamechanger. Sustained success would grow the fanbase further. Ipswich used to draw great support from Essex (still reasonable) but mainly older fans now, all the kids are wearing West Ham, Spurs and Man City (lol!). We shouldn’t have lost so much of our future support but most of the things Evan’s did were self defeating.

Appreciate there will always be casual:glory hunting fans, but I suspect a decade+ of home defeats to the likes of Preston, Lincoln etc was probably not that appealing to some. Genuinely feel we could get 40k with a sustained run in the PL.
