Roma apparently want to end his loan in January so they can buy Zirksee. Could he be the “big” spend the owners have spoken of?

A loan would probably be best.

Hes not played well for two years.

Looked a great prospect when at Brighton. Loan deal could suit us and him.

Two pretty disappointing loans in a row now. A year ago i'd have said there's no chance he drops to the championship, even on loan. But it's looking like the best option for him now to kick-start his career

The question is why has he done nothing in the last two years? Why do Roma want him out? The media says they don’t think he’s good enough. They apparently signed him with an option to buy for £40m.

I’d be careful about signing a player like that. We tried it with Phillips looking to ‘kick start’ his career and it proved to be possibly the most catastrophic loan deal in this club’s history. Ok, the situation is different (age, injury record etc) but I’d be cautious about it.

If Brighton are wanting that kind of dough and assuming he’s a good bloke just unlucky with choice of club, he’ll be wanting wages to match. I would have thought if he’s that level, a Leeds, Forest, Norwich or Wolves style loan is more likely.

He's still only 21, so unless there is some underlying injury that has been impacting on him to give 100% on the pitch, he has plenty of time to get back to his best ... under the right coach. He looked an absolute machine 2 years ago & is very much in the Liam Delap mould of strong, powerful runner, who can take the ball with his back to goal & turn the defender sharply. In short, he is exactly the type of forward that McKenna wants for his team, and is probably why he made a move for Ferguson prior to signing Delap or trying to sign Ionnadis & Broja, who again are somewhat similar in style.
Seeing him go from loan with £40m buy clause at Roma, to a Championship side is unlikely, especially when Brighton have their own injury worries, but as has been said, a loan until the end of the season, with option on promotion, might not be the worst move for all concerned at this time. A thorough medical needed first of course.

Poll: Is it fair to question McKenna's position as manager?

How about take him on loan with an option to buy?

Could be the way forward, especially if we go up!

We also done it with Hirst. He’d not pulled up any trees really.

Imagine wanting to sign Zirkzee.

I really rate what Amorim's doing at United, going in there and moving on all the dross that haven't delivered. Zirkzee, Garnacho, Antony, Rashford, Sancho, Hojland. I'd be tempted to add Casemiro to that list. Imagine the wages alone on that lot, you're probably talking well over £50m a year.

I don't think Man United's issue is budget, I think its where its been spent.

As for Ferguson I'd certainly take him but I imagine there will be competition for him.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. There is no smoke without fire and we have been consistently linked with him since KM joined ...

We did do that with Hirst and it’s been very successful. My point was very much asking the question around Ferguson, given his alleged fee and track record.

Unless we are happy to commit to an obligation to buy if we get promoted, not sure what value there is to Brighton in sending him here really. They seem to have given up on him a bit given they were happy with a £35m buy option in the Roma deal. Not sure proving he can score goals in the Championship does a lot for his value in the summer. But then I guess they might not have a better offer on the table in Jan.

Would have thought Ferguson, and Brighton , want him to go to a competitive club where he will get plenty of playing time.

Ipswich would be a gamble for both player and parent club as unless he hit the ground running he is only likely, at best, to average 45 minutes a gsme. Ferguson no doubt has his eyes set on World Cup squad place, assuming they qualify in March.

From a Town perspective, unless we have other irons irons in the fire, worth a gamble with option to purchase.

Good practice to play with half of the current Irish national team for the 5 months leading up to the World Cup then, surely?

The last thing Ipswich need, if promoted, is a good part of the squad missing half the summer break.

From their perspective I think it'll be straight forward, they'll wanting him playing and scoring at the highest level possible. Ideally with a club that would have the funds to make it permanent at their target price if it went well.

That might not be us or a club in the Championship, but I wouldn't have thought there are loads of bigger clubs (at least domestically) where that would be true. He's been at West Ham, maybe Everton? He feels like a Moyes player and their 9's aren't scoring. Celtic maybe? Score some goals there for a bit, but they certainly aren't paying £30m for him any time soon.

Something like £350k a week isn't it? Can't get my head around a £60m+ fee and £18m a year wages on someone who was never going to have much resale value and was never really going to solve their issues. Very easy in hindsight but letting the likes of Mctominay go was ridiculous.

I like Amorim, he's doing exactly what they've needed for years. He's the Paul Cook of Man United.

What I don't get is that if EF is Premier League standard why Brighton are willing to let him go.

Running with the idea that we sign him on loan with an option to buy on promotion - would he really be what we need (given that he's not good enough to get in Brighton's team?). I have my doubts. If we get promo (big if) surely we learn from last time and get oven ready, proven Prem players, rather than prospects and hope they come good.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Brighton are really heavily into their player trading model and they continue to recruit a lot and sell a lot. As they took him from Bohemians for development compensation any fee they receive counts as pure profit.

Poll: What % of our full potential are we currently playing at?

That 1st season Casemiro was very, very good, but the following 2 years not very good. I actually think he’s improved or it’s been refined tactically to help him.

The broader point on utd spending that money on him is correct though, an awful signing from that point of view.

I quite like what Amorim is doing also. I don’t think they get in the top 4/5 this season but if they get to 6th in context that will be a great stepping stone season. They will then have to go again in the market. 2 midfielders, 1 or 2 wing backs and a striker as well. Lots to do, they could probably do with a real top centre half.

This one is interesting. Fits our ambition this one and might just be something in this. Can’t see him going to a premier league club in January in all honesty.
