Sky News have just shown homeless statistics. 1 in 45 people in London are considered homeless, including 97000 children.

You're not a racist IMO. You play the character of a racist on here and the same people take the bait but I don't believe you're a racist in the real world.

I don’t play anything but thanks anyway x.

Why do you downvote any poster that disagrees with you by the way?

That's really strange and petty behaviour.

Maybe deal with the actual points raised rather than deflect.

(If you really want to know, I didn't come up with the concept of arrows, but as I understand it they're quick way to agree or disagree with a post. I wouldn't let them worry you too much though).

The national average is 0.5%, so it being 4x that in the capital doesn't surprise me greatly, as depressing as it is.

The UK has some of the worst homeless rates (if not the worst) of any country in Europe.

I suspect a lot comes down to what officially constitutes homelessness. We have a fairly broad umbrella that covers a lot of situations and pushes up the total. Do all European counties use the same criteria ?

It's something we should be ashamed of as a nation given how we're supposed to be a wealthy country. Sure, most homeless people have temporary accommodation while they're trying to find a more permanent home, but it doesn't sound like a bundle of laughs and is not suitable for kids in an ideal world - e.g. https://www.justlife.org.uk/our-work/knowledge-hub/living-conditions-in-temporar

Exactly. So why is he berating another posting for not caring? Words are cheap and easy to throw around. If you genuinely care you can get out there and help out at a homeless project or give to homeless charities. I doubt he's doing any of those things.

....methodology of 6 or so levels that range from "living on the streets or open spaces" to "living with relatives or friends" and includes all levels in between.

Obviously the figures being quoted on this thread include all levels of homelessness.

If we were only looking at the "worse" level, we are better off than a number of countries including Germany, Czechia and randomly Iceland.

We also fare better than USA, Canada and Australia.

Homelessness is obviously an issue in many places, not just here.

There is. For relatively peanuts as well.

Don't wish to be a virtue signalling w@nker but I love this site https://www.goodgifts.org/all-gifts Discovered it on MSE so it's legit. When you see the things a small amount of money can buy it's so depressing that some people have billions.

This time of the year it's particularly important people donate to a worthwhile cause. I recall about 10 years ago Dolly linked a website where you could buy a Christmas present for somebody which was a donation for meal and a haircut for a homeless person. Your links are all very worthwhile. It's good to see people being proactive.

That was actually the Crisis at Christmas link.

Perhaps post those links again in a separate thread and see if Phil will put a sticky on it? Should get some traction on here.

That’s just not true is it if you think there are 97000 children in London sleeping rough, then more fool you.

Anyway how’s your lovely house in Norway ?

From my time living in London, I can't see how this is true. Sure, I've been gone 4 years, but 1 in 45 homeless. That's 200k people homeless in London. I think London would look a lot different if true. Need to see the workings on these before I believe it.

Maybe you should google hidden homelessness. It seems, like Benters, you think that homelessness is just people sleeping rough.

The figures seem genuine. It’s obviously including everyone who doesn’t have their own home, be that owned, rented or with family. Most will be people in temporary accommodation, which sounds crap (I posted a link a few replies up). They won’t be obvious, as they’re just normal people but without a home.

From that same site on why it’s not obvious: https://www.justlife.org.uk/our-work/knowledge-hub/what-is-hidden-homelessness-a (there may well be better or more official sites, but this seems to give an overview that only takes a few seconds to read).

Yes, that is what I understood from the initial claim.

I don't think I should have to Google terminology. If multiple people are coming to the same conclusion (mistakes), in good faith, from the statement, then the initial statement likely needs clarification.

Well it's been explained several times already, in this thread, what homeless means.

Apologies, I didn't think 'hidden homeless' was terminology, particularly. I thought it was a pretty well known phrase. To me it's common sense that homelessness doesn't just mean literally sleeping on the streets, but I guess maybe it isn't.
