I thought you meant Sitters until the Dignified, classy and intelligent bit

I’d definitely worked it out by “exciting”. I’m not even sure about the “bloke” bit. You never know what’s under the bonnet these days, and there’s nothing wrong with that

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Unfortunately that's not how football is though. Otherwise Eddie Howe would have never got sacked by Bournemouth (other examples are available).

Of course at the time we'd have taken that. McKenna has almost punished himself for getting the 23/24 team up as expectations have increased from that starting point 4 years ago.

If he's here another 4 years that means things would have gone well so lets hope so!

Point of order, Eddie Howe wasn't sacked by Bournemouth, he resigned.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I’m half way through the first one and it’s a fascinating watch in hindsight. It’s all there from this first interview. Obviously the technical coaching ability is important, and we can’t gauge that from an interview, but his mindset and general outlook was streets ahead of some of the other managers we’ve suffered even on his first day in through the door.

As a person, we couldn’t have someone more suited to the club. His approach isn’t just relevant for football, he’s essentially a life/performance coach. I’ve had to endure a lot worst from supposed specialists during my career. It’s a fair point that this team should be performing better than they are, but that’s also a whole coaching team effort.

It's so interesting looking back on it isn't it!

I remember watching both of these at the time and the thing that struck me was the quiet confidence. The way he was with Marcus Nash, the way he dealt with the media, the way he carried himself. He was ready.

Another detail - when he first came down they stayed at the Salthouse and he said he had been holed up for days watching our games on video making notes.

He meant business and he still does.

'We've got super Kieran McKenna...'

If you're going to try and be a smartie pants, you might want to get it right. It was Mutual consent which lets face it, we know what that means.

Barely any, if any, resign anymore and just leave a massive payoff.

Anyway, the point still stands.

I'd say 50 : 50 over the four years.

Two very good seasons with the obvious promotions, with Paul Cooks players.
Said squad scrapped, two more squads built at significant cost. Teo underwhelming seasons this far.

Are we better now than 2 seasons ago? Im not so sure we are. Is the football played exciting to watch? Not really.

Another transfer window dawns...beill we get thst still illusive effective goal scoring striker? I doubt it in a Jan window.

Will we storm to promotion as the bookies thought we would, ( probably due to the eye watering expenditure)? I live in hope....

So all in all a mixed bag over 4 seasons, which then given the expenditure on these two McKenna built squads, starts to look underwhelming, and certainly doesnt even feel like a settled team. Which is a shame, because this feels like a piss poor Championship league to me, and quite likely a missed opportunity for Town.

Overall, his time at Town has been very positive. He speaks well, always thoughtfully and professionally but I’d agree with others that 2025 hasn’t been a good year for Kieran. Results have been mediocre at best and we’ve lost more than we’ve gained in the leadership and team spirit in our squad.

Thanks to the investors, Ashton and McKenna the club as a whole is in a far better state than it was four years ago.

I’d still like Kieran to develop our young academy players more and see some of them breaking into the first team.

I’ve no doubt that he is the right man to take us forward and here’s hoping that 2026 is a better year for him and for Town.

Are we in a better place than Paul Cook had us with "his" players?

How many of said "scrapped" squad are playing regularly at a level higher than we currently are at?

Do you really not enjoy watching the football we play? Would you rather be watching what was regularly being served up when we were in League 1 before McKenna arrived?

Did the bookies predict us to be storming promotion to the Premier League before McKenna arrived?

In summary, we are in a far better place now than we were before McKenna arrived. There are plenty of experienced managers who have failed to achieve that with similar comparative financial advantages (some of which have followed from McKenna's success with us).

I would say that I am 75% pleased with his time here. The first year slightly exceeded expectation, the second year massively exceeded it. The third season was disappointing and the fourth is below par from where we started it (but not far away from where I would have happily seen us right now when McKenna was appointed).

I think of all the managers we've had in the post-Marcus Evans era with the benefits of Gamechanger and others' unprecedented finance, KMc is definitely the best (and PC was the worst)

Alternatively in 2025:

KM led a team through the remainder of a PL season, the club having been losing to sides like Northampton less 4 years before. Did it with many of the original L1 side.

Drew away at Villa (with 10 men), Chelsea and Everton with good performances to add to excellent showings against Liverpool, United, Fulham, Villa and Chelsea at home and a win at Spurs in late 2024.

Coached and developed Delap and Hutch into players that became transfer targets across Europe and sold for large fees.

Kept a squad facing relegation fighting until the very end and dealt with all with dignity.

Had to deal with a difficult summer with significantly more turnover than expected. Integrated a large number of new players into his style and kept a talented squad happy with rotation.

Beat the scum in style for the first time in 16 years.

Saw his input into new training ground beginning to take shape.

Didn't panic and has us in a solid position going into 2026.

I can't see how anyone could think anything other than that. McKenna is the best by some considerable distance. I would say he is our best manager since Mick McCarthy who I think did a wonderful job in the circumstances he had. I am sure many would consider McKenna to already have eclipsed McCarthy and I can understand that.

What previous post ? I just posted a lineup which became the norm in the final part of the prem season. JD had said we'd finished the season with many players from the league 1 side.

We started it with a lot for sure.

I dont think Cook got much time with his players really did he, before GC replaced him. Cook was Evans last action at the club. Why he did it or was allowed to do I dont know, given he was selling up.

Ive found Town very pedestrian to watch over recent months if im being honest. We are playing the game different to the last time we were in the CC, I feel. Its not as exciting or spontaneous. Im not the only one that is making this observation.
