A question for those who post about abusive fans 14:01 - Dec 22 with 2341 viewsFrimleyBlue

Have you reported these people to the club?

It is in the terms of the ticket purchase that foul abusive language etc isn't acceptable. If theres an obvious increase in it then surely the club needs to be made aware and if they have been made aware and not done anything about it... then thats a great question to ask at the next fan forum..

Telling a player he is "sh*t" and that he should "f.ck off out of our club" as someone was shouting at Jack Clarke at Leicester last week is not something you will get banned for

I think the crux here is what people define as abusing players as chelts has shown.

Its not abuse as such its just dks swearing.

I agree with everyone you can't report for swearing. Was just saying if people are genuinely abusing players then they should be reported.

What would you class as abuse then? Where would a line be crossed where it's no longer dickheads swearing and is actual abuse for which people should get banned?

There’s the number you can text to report any foul/abusive language or raise the issue to a steward.

The club do act on everything that’s reported.

Does Frimmers need the same number for watching at home? Or does he need to include seat numbers?

Think thats for people to define for themselves herbz and the club decide too if you raise the concern.

Chelts mentioned abuse to hirst but then downgraded that just swearing. So it not for me to define what abuse is for people.

I wrote the op in genuone good spirit after reading a few posts about abuse to players.

My definition for what its worth would be repeated directness towards an individual player. As shown on here when I was dk about wes.

I think this was intended to prove that people are being over the top. Your mistake was conflating general negativity and drunken cockwombling with serious abuse.

Exactly. Where does it cross the line between moaning and something really abusive aimed at a player we should ‘support’? a bit like the Luke Hyam/Mick thread on here the last day or two. The fact KM is calling out suggests that collectively those in the ground home and away are either crossing the line or perilously close. Morsy has called it out too last season.

Supporters of the team have to decide if they want to do anything about the abusiveness. But everyone sees it differently. Slightly surprised how many on here see it differently to the OP. As mentioned has been discussed many times to various degrees.

I hardly get to games these days. I would love to be there to be able to cheer and not call out players kuntz.

As I see it, it’s a manners, class and not being an obnoxious d1ckhead thing. It’s unpleasant to be around rather than something where the club is going to use resources to look into reports. A phrase like ‘hurling abuse’ is going to mean general obsessively sweary stuff. And the key part is the relentless negativity/anger, rather than the swearing per se. Swearing’s going to be everywhere of course, but there’s a big difference between a reactionary “oh, FFS Dara” (as he passes straight to their forward) and someone who spends most of their time calling players useless c***s and the like.

I’d caveat the above if there are young kids around and their parent(s) were uncomfortable with any swearing. It’s perfectly reasonable then to ask people to mind their language and any decent person would be happy to do so.

If it was something more serious worthy of follow-up like racial abuse, that’s of course very different. People would also be describing it as racial abuse in that case. And of course we’d all expect things like that to be reported.

So there’s nothing to see here other than (a) ‘hurling abuse’ is a pointless thing to do and can only ever be negative, and (b) makes an unpleasant environment for those nearby. Fine for people to mention that if it’s annoyed them, but nobody’s going to start reporting it.

I've had one of those - made the mistake of calling Hernandez a twonk (possibly another word) when he walked passed me and got reported. Save since framed the letter. For me, I have no issue with some bad language at games, its part of football

Yeah, mentioned it as got the impression that the club do more to manage stuff that’s not deemed serious than people commenting realise. They must follow up on reports too.

Someone showed me a letter they got re alleged behaviour at an away game in league 1.

Then at a home game last season, a guy had shouted a few things first half and I noticed stewards/security circling at h/t. There was a bit of a stand off with one well known steward and it looked like he was about to get kicked out, so I defused it by suggesting to his mate that he’d said enough and it was time to get a beer. They did but the bloke was late back for the 2nd half and said cops had taken his details in the concourse.

Interesting that the two in this thread who 'seem' most offended by abuse are people who don't actually go to games.

I agree with J2, Frimmers' OP reads like someone trying to make a point... but then this is Frimmers, so he might just be being a bit thick and/or bored.

I wasn't offended flash and no the op wasn't to make a point it was simply to ask if people had reported the abuse and if they hadn't felt it was being listened to I was just saying the fans forum would be a great place to bring it up.

Id read a few different posts and included were talk of fans abusing players whilst in the stand hence the op was made.

Anyways. Xmas eve. Lots to do. Have a good one all.

You're extrapolating a lot from words on a football messageboard. People exaggerate to ridiculous levels on here, about everything, in order to make their point. If someone were genuinely offended by abuse at the football they know they can speak to a steward, write a letter etc. They're not waiting for your words of wisdom about what to do!

Anyway, have a bloody lovely Christmas yourself and see you for more inane chat on the other side. I'm off to make some spiced pear chutney!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Yeah i get that for some. But there posts about player abuse.. just thinking if those are reported it could resolve some of those issues and maybe in turn generate better support.

6000 on the waiting list. Hopefully 6000 who dont want to throw abuse.. who could take the place of those who do.. thus increasing the support levels.
