I dunno what’s worse 14:56 - Dec 26 with 2394 viewsMullet

That yet again we have no team spirit or cohesion or that we are competing in the playoff places with an injury hit Millwall, managed by Alex Neil.

Largely another afternoon of frustration, dross and anti football we had no answer to. Maybe we got lucky with that offside flag, maybe it kept things honest, but how we aren’t mile ahead of crap like that is a mystery to me.

Talented footballers who seem shackled to me,
Not totally allowed to express themselves through fear of conceding,
Mind you oshea did his best today woeful passing,

Wasn't as bad as you're saying, but definitely bad in front of goal. We seem to have a phobia about putting the ball in the net! Nobody has a clue when we get the ball into their box. Wouldn't mind trying Egali up front, he looks quite useful.

I love ITFC Mullet but there have been so many games or long periods of games this season when I have not just been frustrated but actually bored. If we fluke somehow promotion, I can't see one player good enough for the Premier League. We don’t have anybody driving this team on. We seriously lack a front man in Hirst's absence but even George is not showing that much quality this season. I keep wanting to see McAteer but hard work aside (the minimum I'd expect), he delivers so little going forward. Our crossing is cr@p, our movement in and around the box is poor, Cajuste is a show pony, Furlong is a fine defender but nothing going forward, O'Shea can defend but with the ball at his feet he's got 2 or 3 disasters in him every game. We look like we've spaffed huge chunks of cash for no improvement.

Watching us today, we did look a bit soft, and a real lack of belief and leadership, especially on the pitch.

If we make the playoffs, as it is, we’ll be a soft touch. If we somehow managed to go up, on today, we’ll be pulverised most weeks.

Clinton Morrison, the season we went up, described us as “relentless”. That’s gone baby gone. That’s hard to take.

We’re more eye of the kitten than eye of the tiger, with too many players overrated by our supporters and by themselves. We blew a win today. Again.

Into January we go with plenty of questions, if and buts.

McAteer stretched them quite well but there's just so little in the box even if he gets it there. Philogene and Leif found the same problem too.

Pass to Cajuste's feet he beats his man, but just putting it into a mixer where Millwall are kicking everything that moves is pointless. It's like we don't know how to use all these players we've bought.

We are waiting for a worldie, a decision, something to just happen without forcing the issue. Akpom's best chance he's at full stretch, I don't understand why we are trying so many low % flicks and passes into space when the simpler option is on.

Bit unfair on Millwall - with respect, we served up quite a lot of the dross ourselves today and with a team assembled from riches they can only dream of.

Millwall packed the box and we always want to make that extra pass. Sometimes we just need to get a shot off and hope the deflections/rebounds fall for us at some point. We try to be too intricate too often. We also missed a real presence up front. We need better than Hirst has offered recently but without him we are lacking so much more.

Again like the wednesday game really good ball in by mcateer and the same player azon fluffed his lines again on the back of mcateer's work I feel for him should have had assists by now if vardy was in our team he would probably have had 5-6 assists our strikers read nothing until it is to late,

Same thing over and over, slow, ponderous and lacking energy.

Slowly work forward with 20 passes and give the oppo time to get back behind the ball. Millwall’s defenders were sh1t on the ball yet there was very little pressing of them to force an error. We look like we are always trying to conserve energy, for what I’m not quite sure.

Even when we score in a game, the players just trundle over to the scorer ,the spirit of the team that got us up from league 1 to Premiership is sadly lacking

Not sure that's right. I do think we lack leaders. Mass, Morsy, Wolf, Burgess and even Broadhead and Chaplin.

Bar O'Shea now we dont have even any candidates. We seem to favour younger, quiet lads who are abundant in talent but seemingly extremely lacking in character.

I personally think the subs were pretty baffling today. McAteer had his first decent 20 minutes at the start of the 2nd half and got taken off. Philogene was just starting to offer a threat and brought off. Akpom and Clarke were totally anonymous, which is not atypical.

Our football is boring and predictable, the game literally plays out as you imagine it... Slow build up at the back, nearly give it away, lose possession then when we break take too long or make the wrong pass. No understanding, same ol' patterns of play. 2 years ago we could score at any minute with our varied build up play. Now we're like Robots programmed to play one way

We have spent £150m and one of the highest wage bills in the championship.

It’s been generally, totally underwhelming.

Still, there is a lack of cohesion and what’s our best eleven

On the right hand side (obviously the weaker of the two) we have Wes, back after a year out. An £18m Norwegian with much promise but left footed. An £11m total disaster from Leicester and occasionally, the very talented Jack Clarke who plays better on the left.

How did we get this so wrong ?

I dunno how to respond to that. It's not like I'm being dramatic is it?

Some of the blue-tinted takes and desperation that we are doing ok, or fishing for upvotes are starting to look more ridiculous I guess.

We've got so much talent in this team, but we are very lopsided and dysfunctional given what we've had at our disposal. Recruitment this January is essential isn't it?

Why the downvote this is so true. Look at the last 30 seconds of the first half and 20 of the second. Both times we had an opportunity to get the ball in the box, first half Walton takes so long that ref blows up when he kicks it. The long throw at the end took ages too resulting in same thing.

There is ZERO URGENCY in this team. It's like they are told to play walking football.

I'm in a very similar place to you with all this.

The football we play, considering the money invested in this team, is poor. It comes together upon occasion - Philo's lovely goal against Stoke a good example - but far, far too often we've seen performances like yesterday.

Someone else made the point that the Millwall keeper didn't have a save to make, which is *absolutely* wild.

Again I've seen posters on here bemoaning 'entitlement' on the part of us pessimists - not sure how to counter that; this is a desperately, desperately poor league this year, and we are currently 13 points off a fairly good Cov team - fairly good as opposed to excellent. (I think Lampard is pretty over-rated, but that's another story).

This transfer window - we need cover for Davis & Matu, along with 2 x strikers and a proper No. 10, in my opinion. I think we might get 2 of those 5 players in (that pessimism again....). It's apparently impossible to buy strikers in 2025, though, so god knows.

In fairness to Azon, that was more McAteer belting the cross too hard, not for the first time. Different story if he hammers them in like that along the ground having made such a good run, but I doubt we're going to see anyone get on the end of crosses like that.

Agree we need more leaders but, Broadhead was not a leader. He was as quiet as a church mouse on and off the pitch.

Don't know if ernie really hasn't spotted that Leif is doing a lot of leadership things, or if ernie thinks that we don't need a bit more leadership from the forwards group?
