Mckenna got that wrong today 14:56 - Dec 26 with 1923 viewsBseaBlue

Can't help but feel that he got it wrong today. Macateer shouldn't have started as he looks completely shot to bits. Egeli so much more of a threat when he came on but too little too late.

He then takes off Philogene who seemed to be our most likely outlet and just finding his feet. Nunez clearly flagging for the last twenty minutes but delayed taking him off when we needed more energy.

5 days to go and we can address the centre midfield issue and more importantly, the number 9 role!

Trouble is it’ll be close to 36 days by the time we rectify it. When do we ever get deals done early?

I actually think he got the mcateer sub wrong

With wes available he should have come on for mcateer. Mcateer was getting joy with the ball out wide but his lack of quality didnt help at the end of it. we kinda lost that threat with egeli whos a tuck inside forward.

To be fair, you can’t really expect quality if you are only going to pay 11.5 million…

Philogene and McAteer were both growing into the game and looking lively when they were subbed off. Timing seemed odd.

Can’t stop thinking that had we been playing Coventry today, and not Monday, thst out starting eleven would have been different.

Taking Philogene off was baffling?!

He just makes the same subs for the sake of it.

Does he know you don’t have to make 5 subs every match!

Not really that's robotic McKenna for you,
We looked the stronger were finding out feet well then he has to make substitutions for his squad to work but today that burst our bubble,
He's says one game at a time but to replace a philogene who was then starting to open them up shows me he's not one game at a time he's already thinking of the Coventry game,
He replaces for the sake of it sometimes,
Could have kept philogene on and benched him for Clarke on Monday keeping the flow going today,
I'm sure he would have created more then,
Macateer was better second half for no joy I feel for the lad,

Philogene was already the main threat, not growing into game, but McAteer looked the best next threat.

His decisions are so pre planned it’s mad, he needs better advice from his assistants.

RIP Sir Bobby

Thing is he keeps getting it wrong regularly. For the best part of 20 months now. In fact he will soon have been as disappointing as long as he was successful with Town.

When I read stuff like this, I worry for the future of our club - so many of you have so little idea what you’re talking about.

Kieran McKenna is the greatest Ipswich Town manager of the modern era and one of the most promising young managers in world football.

Agree and he's looking at this as a 46 game season with one objective. The benefits of the approach will come later in the season.

I agree. I wouldn't want anyone else in charge but its just my opinion that ge got the subs wrong today.

If you read my previous posts (in answer to J2's post below) you can also seen I have said I have an understanding of the rotation but I felt that the momentum from halftime onwards was in our favour and we looked like we were going to win it.

I quoted the post I quoted for a reason- fans being critical of subs/selection is part and parcel in football, that’s understandable.

Claiming he’s been ‘getting it wrong’ for 20 months and stating that the best manager in the modern era at our beloved club is essentially as disappointing as he is successful, is beyond the pale.

This is the problem too many rose tinted glasses being worn on here still. It’s a result’s business not a love in for someone who hasn’t produced in 20 months. Any other club and he would have been gone ages ago. He did a great job, but not been much evidence that he is the best young manager around over the last 2 years.

What complete and utter nonsense. You lack the requisite skills to make an appropriate judgement, clearly.

Agree with a poster above that actually MacAteer was growing into the game before getting yanked - the co-comms also called it out.

I think it would've been a good time to thrust Egeli into the no.10 and give him some time with Jaden and MacAteer. Eventually, the Clarke and Burns subs could've been made, maybe with Clarke for MacAteer before Jaden later in the game for Burns

It’s a result’s business

Yes it is. Over 46 games. Unless i've missed Coventry lifting the trophy today at the halfway stage. We were poor for the first ten games. Over the following 13 games we're second in the form table so sacking McKenna would be very stupid.

I know you won't like this stat but in your words it's a results business so your opinions which are unsupported by the facts are meaningless.

We play top of the league in 3 days time. It's not even remotely baffling. You have Jack Clarke to come in who is also quality and back hin and other subs to go and win the game. It didn't happen but it's not baffling. It's probably just as likely it ends 0-0 with them on.

I'm not saying it's definitely the right call but it's not baffling at all. It's logical. Mckenna makes logical calls consistently. In football they will never always come off but his job is to make decisions come off enough over the course of a season to take us up.

We’re far from perfect, but we’re also far from out of it. I can’t think of any clubs who’d sack their manager while sitting 3rd at the half way point of the season. Any examples?

You can see we are almost where KM wants us to be

We are solid at the back, we've got that organisation off the ball resolved imo and we're starting to see real patterns of play showing. Our issue is that final ball or lack of really

That Nunez chance where he should have played Egeli rather than trying to put in akpom.. that was golden.

January is big. I don't think this current squad has enough in it to get a big run of wins together to get that top two, but with some very carefully selected signings, we could very well go on one.

Striker and a 10, even if that cost us £30 mill to do it one two real high quality signings, that's where our money should go

Who.......... that's the question

Interesting post FB. I shall watch the game back tomorrow, but I’ve seen nothing in the more recent home games to disagree with it. Yes, who??

Anyway, I hope your dad had a better day today, Frimley.

We’re certainly getting a lot right, but are equally frustrating and not clicking. I hope you’re right that it’s just a missing piece or two of the jigsaw. I have no idea who, but given we’re not clicking as a unit we probably need someone who can score from nothing. Of the names mentioned, Piroe would tick that box, but there must be others out there. He is a natural goalscorer though with a proven pedigree in this league over several seasons. He’s un-Hirst like, but given it’s not working with Hirsty maybe that’s not such a bad thing.
