In reality he's never really made it in the PL though.
I would think about 8m nowadays but then I wouldn't want him either way. I think we can do better and there is too much looking backwards around the fans at the moment.

He's 26, and should be pretty much coming into his peak, but teams are hardly falling over themselves to sign him.
His stats this season are bang average at best compared to others in the league, Matusiwa and Ebou Adams for example. | |

He didn't get opportunities at WH because he wasn't good enough. Moyes is a top manager, and if he felt Flynn wasn't good enough, that's enough for me.
I like Flynn, had the pleasure of chatting with him a few times, but looking at Southampton if he was that great why isnt he at least dominating the midfield for them in the championship. Whereas Hackney has completely controlled the midfield on more than one occasion this season for Boro.
I would rather save the £15m (not that Flynn is anywhere near that value) and spend it on an overseas midfielder after promotion. |  | | |

At the point we were wanting Gallagher we were absolutely gunning for promotion and it had become not an expectation per se but a real possibility. Gallagher is somewhat underated and would have done a good job at the time. Delighted we went with Moore and I wouldn't be keen to go back to Gallagher as I think we have progressed more like you say.
But Downes is class at this level. And he is capable of playing premier league football even if he wasn't able to have a huge impact.
What I would really like about signing Downes is he is capable of both CM roles we operate. He has the energy and engine to play alongside matusiwa but he is also very good at playing the deep sitting role and keeping it neat and tidy and winning balls back. | |

Do we really need him? Not really. We've got enough cover in CM really. If he was cheap, then OK but otherwise, Nah.
