I’ve a feeling Man United will make their move… 20:33 - Jan 9 with 2285 viewsWestSussexBlue

I see United are potentially talking to Solskjaer about a short term deal until the end of the season.
Now, considering he remains good friends with Kmc, they have a mutual respect for each other I would imagine he will speak very highly and encourage the United board to consider making a move for Kieran in the summer. This I would imagine has already crossed the mind of Ashton who could be glancing once again across his shortlist.
Would we feel aggrieved now if Kmc did go in the summer?

If he takes us up and then leaves then he should go with our thanks and best wishes.

I don't think they will go for him. Their fans like him but I don't think they want him. At least at this time. I think he's a good couple of years in the Prem away from a job like that. Whether that's with us (hopefully) or a club like Palace.

Ah, I thought Fletcher was their interim. So he’s only the interim to the interim? That makes a bit more sense now, but I’m still not convinced they know what they’re doing.

KM is certainly going to be mentioned in the media a lot whether he moves or not. So we need to expect that and not have the silly beggars where some fans get the hump because he’s linked. Even if he talks to them, that’s not an issue if he stays. The only thing that matters is what the final decisions by both parties are. I don’t think/hope they’ll go for him, but it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if they do.

United have some very big names/characters/egos who need to be managed/motivated. I don't think KM is anywhere that level yet so would be a few years away from what am sure he sees as a dream job.

The stepping stone move is much more feasible, could be any of a dozen clubs or indeed a top level club in Europe.

As others have said, if he got us promotion, be hard to feel aggreived. Same if he doesn't tbh.

The idea that players or managers owe us anything is quite quaint. We employ them, pay them and they perform. We ditch them if they under perform, they ditch us when they can get a better opportunity. Many fans seem to think players or managers have the same attachment to our clubs as we do which I can't see.

Exactly this. 1. They won’t offer him the job and 2. The job is a death trap currently. That said if the players there gave him a chance he would improve them.

Agree to an extent, with the right people around him however, Solskjaer, Fletcher and Sir Alex always mentoring he could be supported to the next level.

Why would they go for KMc when Glasner, Areola Tuchel Southgate and Pochettino, could all be available. All have sustained success at Premier League, European or international level, some both. As good as I think KMc is and will be he doesn’t have the CV of any of those.

on what planet would you willingly take on the Man Utd job at the moment, when youve even got Roy Keane ripping them a new one on how much influence the "old boys" still have there.

Sturridges reaction to that was priceless.

Man Utd are in a doomloop until they move on from that past.

In October 2021, a month before United dismissed Solskjaer, reports surfaced suggesting unrest about McKenna's methods on the training pitch.

The Telegraph claimed that some noises were coming out of Carrington about his coaching sessions being more suited to academy football than at senior level.

According to The Athletic, several senior players wanted training to be led by coaches with greater elite experience.

McKenna's approach was also reportedly described as "schoolmastery", as if he was taking a class at school, leaving players uninspired.

The reports prompted a sense of relief among some fans when McKenna left for Ipswich shortly after Solskjaer's exit and Ralf Rangnick's arrival.

He'll need a good season in the Prem before someone like United come for him to be honest.
Last years performances did nothing to enhance his reputation beyond the Championship.

Maybe a fair assessment of where he was in his own development at that point. It is 4+ years later though now.

Just a short while ago people were calling for him to go, he mentioned this himself in interviews.

To quote a great man “be careful what you wish for”.

I hope he doesn’t go, don’t think it would be right for him right now. To take us up
And keep us there would be such a great achievement. He would then quite rightly be looked at as a potential. Even then I’d imagine him going to Tottenham first for a few years. Prove himself there and then Utd.

It is inevitable he’ll go eventually. Another 18 months time with us having survived a premiership campaign would be good for me.

The numbskulls just need to keep quiet every time we are fractionally less than awesome.

If we don't get promoted this season, i'm really struggling to see how a manager who got relegated with a team, had the best squad in the league will be of interest to any top Premiership team, let alone Manchester United.

I agree with your first sentence, but sorry, I can't with your second.

I think those in football, such as other managers/coaches etc., saw that ITFC gained promotion to the premiership with a good football playing squad, but one that simply didn't have the ability, strength, or footballing know-how needed to compete, let alone keep afloat, in the Premiership. In my opinion, (and I'm mindful many others have a different opinion to me!), whist it was great going through the double promotion years we simply got promoted too soon.

Of course, I'd love to see us get promoted again this season, but fear the current squad would still struggle if I'm honest. So, with that in mind, I genuinely wouldn't be overly concerned if we don't get promoted this season, as long as we continue to have a good season - I'd say third in the table with a game in hand at more or less the half way point isn't too bad, despite us not always playing at our best.

What I would like to see is the continued improvement of the squad, including the hard work and coaching that goes on up at Playford Road, so that when we (hopefully) get promoted next time we'll have enough about us to mount a good challenge to retain our place in the Premiership. But this will take time and so will need patience, something that a lot of our supporters (and I'm not meaning you here Chelts) don't seem prepared to accept.

Up the Towen!

The only way they appoint an interim is if they have decided to get someone who will be available in the summer but isn't now. That would point to Tuchel. If they want McKenna they would appoint him rather than an interim.

I wonder how many of those senior players are still there. The club has a massive problem with a few "star" players who are bigger than the club. I wonder if they also think McKenna is smarmy.

Got to be careful, because there are some who think Kieran is a God and can only be talked about as such.... but I don't think Kieran has anywhere near that high reputation to be regarded as a genuine Man U manager.

And why would they go for Kieran because of his previous association with Man U? He was at the club when they were spending hundreds of millions and still not making much ground. The last period of success of Man U was under Fergie.... that's nothing to do with Kieran.
For me... Kieran's next step would be to a club like Chrystal Palace or Brighton. Even if he got us promotion I wouldn't be upset if he left to a club like this as it's an obvious next step up, rather than having to get involved with another relegation battle. I wish him well and don't want him to overstay his time here as I'd like him to see him managing at the very top.
We might even do better - if promoted- with another manager who's better at keeping us up.

I am not sure I can see anyone who reveres McKenna as a God.

Many do recognise he came in to manage a struggling League 1 side, took them to the Premier League and currently has them challenging strongly for automatic promotion back there, though, and therefore recognise he is a very competent manager at the least.

The likelihood of KM leaving in the summer is high - even more so if we gain promotion. His stock would be on the rise again. Perfect time for him to move this time.
