A whole afternoon of fixtures, but unless you have TNT you won't be watching them.

Balls.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

….you’d think they would at least split them a bit better. TNT have got relentless football today.

I’m gonna have to go to a streaming service to watch norwich lose.

And this is why there is such a big market in dodgy streaming...

The FA is not acting in the interests of fans by selling the FA Cup rights to TNT. I wish something could be done to change the leadership of these football bodies.

Really?? That is absolute bollarks. I am militantly anti piracy in general but I can see why people wanna stick one in the eye of the FA. Yet again something we have enjoyed for many many years is stuck behind a pay wall. The Thatcherisation of Modern Britain must be reversed.

That does sound like a bad decision. (All games available heee on WSPN). But a reminder the Spanish Cup Final is being played in Saudi Arabia today. It can always be worse.

Now ITV have lost the rights BBC don’t feel the need to compete so therefore only show the bare minimum, save on licence fee I guess. When ITV were showing them as well, we got games Friday night, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights on both stations. Now hardly anything this season.

Some of those games haven’t (just) been moved for tv reasons, but for logistics.

The two Sheffield clubs can’t play at home on the same day, neither can the two Merseyside clubs (so TV or no TV, one of those games would have to move days).

Admittedly, there’s others I can’t help on…

Agreed. It is just so silly. Privatising telecommunications - fine. I am on Vodafone, but I can call anyone, regardless of what network they're on. If I don't like my provider, I can move to someone else who may be better or cheaper.

Privatisation for that sort of industry has broadly worked. (Obviously we all hate the customer service, and various aspects of the contracts but these are relative details).

I hate what streaming has done to the music industry, but from a consumer's point of view, at least pretty much all music is available on each streaming service. If the cost doubled in order to treat artists fairly, that's fine with me personally.

Why can't that be the case with TV? It would be great if TV worked like music streaming in that you can get the same content on all different streamers. Imagine having to get Spotify and Deezer and Amazon Music just to listen to your three favourite bands!

Having to buy several subscriptions just to watch your own football team is madness, and then add the 3pm blackout to it, and it really does make your head boggle.

I suppose it goes to fund the FA Cup "prize money", most of which ends up in the hands of the bigger clubs.

I notice that the 4th round draw is also only available on TNT too!
I guess 5 Live will also have it.

As the licence fee goes it will become increasingly the case. A few events such as the Cup Final might remain protected and be available on advertising-funded channels such as ITV but I wouldn't even be confident of that.

But few people seem to think the licence fee is value for money so it is what people want.

Typical - I was in London yesterday, then found I couldn't watch today's TV games. I am also busy on Tuesdays for the next months, so there go most midweek games

I make you correct. It doesn't appear to trickle down to the local FA and grassroots. I was amazed to see our county FA recruiting a CEO recently, the salary would attract a middle manager in many businesses and public sector organisations. I then had a look at the accounts and they're only turning over about £500k pa which explains not only the salary but also the high rate of staff churn.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Agreed, but it's largely funded by TV viewers willing to pay up for access, both in Britain and increasingly, overseas.

For all the moaning about it, so which games do you think terrestrial would have picked yesterday ?

Just as a hint I'll highlight as of 2023 (dont have the latest figures sorry) that 83 out of 84 of Man Utds last fa cup fixtures have been shown live on tele.

Probably exactly the same fixtures TNT picked. Were they games you'd have watched on FTA TV? Probably if it was on but you probably werent that fussed with them, you'd have wanted to see the Sheffield game instead which was never going to be picked, just our game v Blackpool wasn't.

But if they were games you wanted to watch why not go down the local pub with a subscription, support a local business and watch it there instead.?

Its a Sunday is that much of an ask to go for a walk on Sunday to a pub and buy a couple of beers to watch a game.

And as saw something mention yesterday the games wouldnt have been behind a paywall if ITV/BBC had (again) chosen to bid more for the rights to them, they didnt so what are the FA to do?

not generate as much money from the cup games so the prize money is much less for the teams competing, so the FA has less money to invest in football from top to bottom.
