Last Summer included Sesko, Cunha and Mbuemo for over £200m!

though one could argue only Sesko has failed to really live up to standards amongst those three; other two look decent - and of course anytime ManU come calling the price will go up so their failures cost more three seconds later he scores... [Post edited 11 Jan 18:15]

I'm not saying that they are bad players as such, just that it is crazy money for players who probably don't belong at a top tier club. Obviously the key observation would be that Man U are no longer a top tier club, but they DO spend top tier money on transfers.

Conversely, Danny Welbeck to Brighton (from Watford) must be one of the greatest free transfer signings of modern times.

Sesko will come good with the right service. Mbuemo is quality. I would agree that their signings in general have been bad, but 2 of the 3 you mentioned will be fine.

At the moment, you'd take Wellbeck over Sesko

No. Sesko has 10 years + in him. I think he can become very decent with the right system and service. I like his effort.

Some youngsters also forget that ManU were languishing in the 2nd tier in the 1980s, in a far worse state than they are currently.

When people go on about McAteer (yes he has been a flop) I want them to pick a club with a 100% success record in the transfer market. Liverpool chased Isak all summer and even before he got injured he didn't seem a good fit. And United have wasted hundreds of millions in the past decade.

They are the most important club in this country and the world, along with Real Madrid. Nothing will change that. Decline is what happens to the rest.

| Has ever a big club gone in to such decline as man United?? on 20:38 - Jan 11 with 1596 views | Swansea_Blue | They seem to be run by people who don’t know what they’re doing. They weren’t electric under Amorin of course, but on their day could beat some good teams. To sack him (or fall out to the point he wanted out) when only 3 points off a Champs League place seemed daft. They’ve been drawing a lot, so weren’t far off getting things right and were doing much better than last year. It’d be funny to see them drop like a stone now. I enjoy a bit of schadenfreude when big clubs get things wrong or make stupid ownership decisions (see Nottingham Forest sacking Nuno and replacing him with the hapless Ange - a great example of owner feckwittery). | |

Yep. It was a spectacular decline from their highs in the 50s and 60s. I remember them tumbling down the leagues in the 80s. Did they drop out of the league? I can’t remember, but they were certainly in the 4th tier for a while.
