Think KM will be reluctant to do much. Big, strong squad that is really beginning to gel (š) after a few months with him. Good competition for places and everyone involved.
If we're going to add anywhere I think it would be a number 10/another CM and not a striker.
Suspect we will be more reactive in this window than having definite targets. I.e of a player we like who improves us becomes available we'll have a look but we won't be pursuing targets to the end.
It's clear that in the past KM has advised we don't do deals that Ashton has been pushing.

Is that because signing a decent striker will influence the way we play? Last 2 home games we've had 44 shots on goal and scored 5. Still top of the league in big chance missed, yes we are 3rd and I'm not unhappy with how we are going but surely it's ok to want to be better.
I love Azon but he should have had 2 today and one against Blackpool.

We've got a very decent striker in Hirst.
Azon is doing well. Adapting to a new league and getting in great positions. Composure will come
I'm not against signing a striker if one comes up that is a available who we can get and who improves us but there are probably only a handful of players who fit that description.
Number 10 much more important as True Blue says.
Overall we really don't want too many new faces at this stage. One ideally possibly two max but I'm not sure we need more than one.

I don't disagree about Hirst but maybe I'm old fashioned. We've got 3 strikers who have scored 9 goals in 53 appearances this season.

Old fashioned is perhaps a harsh way to put it, but Town have developed a different way to play in recent seasons, with lots of the goals coming from what we might call the second rank of attackers (Chaplin, Burns, Harness, Broadhead, Jackson, Hutchinson, Sarmiento, Szmodics, Philogene, J Clarke, Walle Egeli - 136 goals between them since 30th July 2022) rather than "strikers" (Hirst, Ladapo, John-Jules, Moore, Delap, Azon - 65 in the same period). A ratio of more than two to one.
The Prem seaon was probably the happiest time for strikers with Delap and Hirst bagging 15 out of the fairly meagre total of 36 (we'd already scored more than that by Christmas this season).
Depends if we want to offload/loan anyone out and we want adequate cover.
I still think a goal scoring centre forward would have an absolutely field day in this team.
I don't mind Hirst and Azon tries and isnt "too bad" but there isn't a lot of goals in them. Akpom should be that guy, but its not working/clicking for him.
To be fair I think Szmodics could be the CF too. Maybe you're right and McKenna thinks we have enough options.

I think weve got two confirmed but waiting for African nations to finish ( when is that btw?) 1 prem loan 1 fringe prem signing
Then final week. Maybe 1 more.

There's a handful of PL players still at AFCON, including Salah, Marmoush, and Iwobi, so I very much doubt their clubs are waiting on their return before sending players out to us.
The only potential player would be Frank Onyeka at Brentford.

I just can't believe that I read ITFC fans being ok with our striking options.
You say composure will come, will it? how do you know that? We've all watched him this season, and he's missed so many huge chances. That doesn't just turn overnight.
We absolutely need a 6/9/10 as a minimum.

Given that we have let 2 go, we will most likely bring 2 in. Probably a midfielder and an attacking option.

I'm pretty confident that the squad as it is now would get promoted from here, two points behind Boro with a game in hand and very much starting to look more and more synchronised.
But we've also got to build for next season with at least a strong core already together. To that end, I wouldn't be signing any 32+ players with loads of quality 'to get us over the line' this season but not up to PL next season. However, I really would be signing two or three 25yo-ish semi-established strong punts, almost certainly from Europe or South America for value reasons.
Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

As someone else I think Hirst is a bit under rated and valued for his contribution. Ivan was excellent yesterday with his flicks, touches, passing everything apart from when it comes to the putting the ball in the net. Akpom has never really looked like he is going to rediscover his form.
I think we need a striker that is going to hit the ground running and contribute 8-10 goals but who the hell that is I don't know! The stat of 9 goals in 53 for a team looking to get promoted is very poor. You'd expect your strikers to be minimum 1 goal in 2.5 games at that level.

Was it poor in our promotion season? 21 goals from the number 9s for the season, so a similar ratio. Our system isnāt about number 9s that contribute the majority of the goals.
I agree that we could have had more goals if our number 9s had been more clinical (and a little bit of luck with a few chances), but itās not as if weāre short of goals. Would a new 9 that scores more, and brings everything else that Hirst does for the team be a good addition? Yes. Where do we find that player though? We need to be careful that we donāt bring in a 9 that maybe scores more goals, but loses many of Hirstās other attributes, and as a team we score less goals.

I hesitate to say it but if we had a Makama-type player, weād sure be scoring more goals. Hirst does many things well but he seems to have lost his goalscoring ability.
Think with a decent no 9, we couldāve beaten Blackburn by 5 or 6 yesterday.
Against better teams a more natural goalscorer could be the difference between 1 and 3 points.
Strikers in Jan are hard to find I know but surely not impossible

He's eye-catching as a power player and has great finishing ability, but I'm not sure he has the mobility to be our type of 9 does he? I'd definitely sign him if we had the chance, but we really want someone who can do 60 minutes at high energy levels, not just bursts of great energy punctuating a fairly static overall game. Not sure if the data bears this out, just my initial impression.
Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I can't comment in Makama specifically, but I would be stunned if there wasn't someone out there we could get who is at the very least an upgrade on Azon. I don't mind Hirst being first choice, Azon's level is third choice (similar to AAH in 23-24), so we need a Kieffer Moore-level player to come in.
