Half and half scarfs 21:16 - Jan 19 with 1095 viewspingu67

I've never understood them, you support one team not both and certainly not in your biggest rivalry, could you ever imagine a half ipswich half norwich, couldn't think of anything worse

Aren't they meant to show an affinity between the clubs for one reason or another?

Eg Newcastle : Town through the SBR connection...... and hence why you'd never see a Town half n half with that lot up the road...

Just use the "Ips" from Ipswich and the "wich" from Norwich. Job done.

I could kinda understand that in those circumstances, the sorry state of how tourism is taking over the premier league though is seeing these scarfs flag up on a weekly basis.

I guess it's for many tourists to say they were at a game with both sides playing without an affinity to either side

But that still makes no sense to me as I couldn’t give a toss about Newcastle

I pride myself on my ability to retain a semblance of rationality in most situations...

But I have told my sons if they ever buy a half and half scarf, I will write them out of my will.

You're on holiday in Spain and pick up a ticket for Seville v Athletic Bilbao. You don't support either team. There is a half and half scarf that would look cool on the man cave wall, plus would be a good memory of the event. Do you buy it? I would but I wouldn't wear it at the match.

Fine as a neutral / tourist souvenir but not for fans of either club.

It would be ultimate modern football if a fan wore a scarf half blue and half black and white to a match, then Newcastle played in white and green.

They are ridiculous - the recent Coronation Street v Emmerdale F A Cup match saw fans wearing scarves with Michael LeVell on one half and Christopher Chittell on the other half.

I’ve always associated them with the FA cup, where some non league team plays a team 4 or 5 steps higher. The only other time is grandad taking the grandson and there 2 teams play for there first time together.

Otherwise nah load of pony

I've never understood the hatred for them tbh - there are thousands of much, much worse things to get upset about.

But they can look good in one’s garden bar or man shed,it’s a nice souvenir to have I think.

I’ve never understood it. I’ve read the arguments as to why people buy them and of course people are entitled to buy and wear whatever they like. It’s not the least bit important, but I do find it odd and would never buy and wear one in a million years.

I’ve read the souvenir of a child’s first game argument. I remember my first game. I was bought a scarf, pin badge, programme and just to date me badly a rosette (which I still have). The last thing I’d have wanted, even at the age of eight, was something with another club’s badge or colours on it.

Each to their own.

I think they are intended to commemorate an occasion rather than show an allegiance to both teams. Also maybe aiming at the neutrals who sometimes attend a high end game as a tourist.

I think they are meant to represent wanting to mark a particular match rather than support both teams. If I were ever to have got one it would have been for Ipswich vs Liverpool last season, because it marked the brilliant achievement of the double promotion.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

While i don't agree with them, i can also see why others may get one for various reasons,

Hypothetically, if Ipswich vs Norwich was the first game you saw the town play in, would you get an Ipswich norwich scarf knowing both badges would be on the scarf?

They're great little reminders of matches for kids, like my son, who don't get to go to all the games they'd like to. I don't know why people get the knickers in a twist over this tbh - it's just a fcking scarf.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Have the Helsingborg & Inter Milan half & half scarfs. Have never worn them but nice mementos of the day nevertheless.

Plus they are in the same draw as the match worn Christoffer Andersson shirt from the Helsingborg game that Hermann Hreidarsson threw into the crowd after he swapped shirts with him.

But your son has to endure those vile yellow colours - no wonder he wants a half and half scarf. One day you’ll find all the nasty yellow bits cut off and in the bin with the cat litter and the nice blue bits sewn together to form something much better.

Just buy him an Ipswich scarf. You know it’s what he really wants and it’ll cost you less. You will thank me for it.

Edit: he will remember his early games without ghastly reminders like that. Get him a programme instead.

I just get one of the home team given that’s the ground/City I’d visited. Or if you want to do the man-cave thing one of each, like they do in any self-respecting Irish bar.

People managed before the abomination of H&H, I’d rather pour Tabasco in my eye than fund/encourage the scourge that is half and half scarves.

It’s because they are deemed to be ‘modern’ and the dinosaurs on here think it’s fashionable to dislike anything modern.

On a serious note, I agree with you - it’s just a scarf, kids like them as souvenirs and I can’t see what harm they do.

I get the Ipswich/Newcastle connection through the Great Man & that they supported his Foundation/cancer charity

But I think H&H's should only otherwise be reserved for a Cup Final with the date & venue also appearing on them

I personally wouldn't otherwise wear one

Out of interest, what do you class as 'Modern'?

I first noticed these scarfs around 2002 time when we played Inter Milan but that is 24 years ago now

In the eighties I remember a lot of people had hand-and-half hats - think they were quite fashionable at the time.

I don’t have no problem with them at all.
