Szmodics never plays again as central 10, Walle not as a right winger and Azon over Hirst (or encourages a new CF this week).

Even Matusiwa has been poor. Clarke’s been wasteful. Dara I suppose hasn’t made any mistakes and that’s about as good as it gets.

We need a striker, Azon can’t carry the full load for 4 months and Hirst I’m just not seeing it at all this year. Really poor day for us, not one player really comes away with any credit really. Missed early chances in these kind of games adds to frustration. Biggest 90 seconds of afternoon was Hirsts awful ball to Clarke was clean through, then 1-0 down from the corner. KM will be fuming with that sequence. [Post edited 24 Jan 17:00]

Maybe but we looked assured enough at Millwall, we were solid without being spectacular and at Cov we were unreal. We should have been full of confidence coming in. That’s very poor today and we can’t do that many more times on the road to achieve our ambitions. [Post edited 24 Jan 17:04]

The 3 changes made all the difference. SWE doesn't seem to have ability to just run the line like Burns does and wants to turn inside. Davis gives Clarke support and makes so much use of the space when Clarke naturally wants to drift inwards. Azon was 10x the hold-up man Hirst was today. Szmodics does not link up play creatively like Nunez and does not bring in the rest of the team. This is the frontline I want to see next week (assuming Jaden and Nunez are still out): Azon Clarke Mehmeti Burns

Would agree with the decisions, I would be moving Szmodics on, I would be looking to move Egeli on loan. I would rather McAteer as the understudy to Burns. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Give credit to Sheffield / they were on us from the start - won every second ball, got In our faces so we couldn’t get any rhythm and scored goals from mishaps from our players . Hirsts crap ball to Clarke led to a corner rather than him having a run at goal rather the out wide. Egeli losing the ball for the second and Walton playing a game Of seeing how central he could parry a ball and 3rd just bad defense from a basic long punt down the middle from their keeper. They looked the more likely to add to their scoring also - just put it down to a bad game, too many changes and players not putting in the performance required. Azon to start over Hirst every game as he has been shocking of late, burns is a better winger than the other 30m we have spent, we need some one who is quicker or more dynamic as a 10 if Nunez Is injured for a while which hope is not as we looked poor Without him.

Expect that from a Wilder team I guess but it was the worst I’ve seen us in spells of that game. Never seen us give it away that much, our big chances came from their errors and we fluffed our lines each time.

Was he? He defended the ball and cleared the danger. Not his fault one of his team mates didnt stay in line.

I was sure we were going to get lucky a come back to 2-2 and then the third went in. But overall apart from some of the subs - Burns in particular. Really poor from front to back today. - Hirst no longer the starter. Azon should have that place - Egeli just does not work in that role on the right. For him or the team. Had one or two good games. Can’t see where the progression is going to come from in that role from someone so one footed. Onwards. Need 3 from every 4 for for top 2 I feel. So onto the next mini run of wins. 🤞

He didn't clear the danger. The clearance was too weak and went straight to the opposing player barely 10 yards away.

O'Shea outmuscled for the third I'd say but no dreadful passes and generally OK.

Fcuk off. That’s just utter b0ll0x. We’ve shown we’re perfectly capable of making the top 2, having made up 8 points (and more) on Boro over Xmas and going above them in to second. 18 games left ffs. If it was the end of April, you might have a point.

the hope is that Mckenna sees what didn’t work yesterday, and acts on that. SS can’t play there Hirst, has to be dropped from the squad for a period Walle isn’t achieving anything if he acts accordingly off the back of yesterday then we’ll see what happens. but if he picks these players again in the roles given yesterday i’ll be concerned if i’m honest
