Sammie S can go ... but only if we get £6m for him
Wrexham have offered £5m
And if we don't get £6m, we keep a player who obviously knows he is surplus to requirements and we miss out on what could be that missing piece of the jigsaw which gets us over the line.
So, er, why not just take a hit on £1m?
Like I said, am I being thick?
Leave this to be sorted out on Monday and potential targets may well have decided to move elsewhere.

There is clearly significant interest in him. He's also a very good player to have in the squad. I doubt we're pushing him out the door, especially if we do not get a striker in and will maybe use Akpom a bit more in that role.
Also, I don't think lack of funds is preventing us getting a striker. The window goes the same way every year. |  |

Here's what will happen, Szmodics won't be involved tomorrow. He'll go to Hollywood FC or Derby for £5.5m plus add ons on Sunday evening, and we'll sign a forward on Monday.

Maybe a lot is happening behind the scenes which we are not supposed to know ( quite correctly) and the Szmodics talk is all part of the negotiations. I'm happy with 5 mill.... but why not squeeze an extra million or 500k out.
Don't see where Szmodics not going out means we don't get a striker. Do we have to sell him to get one in ? Maybe there's not one out there anyway..... so we continue with what we got. We're one of the highest scorers in the league and if one our current strikers hits a mini purple patch along with Philogene and Clarke.... it could well be enough.

But the players we are currently using in that position are doing ok, Town are scoring plenty of goals and winning lots of games. It ain't broken.
Incidentally, Hirst and Azon were not the reason we lost the game last Saturday. Our supply lines broke down in midfield and the ball hardly got near them. Then we showed ourselves vulnerable to direct play and fast breaks bypassing the press. |  |

They weren't directly the reason we lost, however they were part of the reason it didn't go well.
Hirst with his half jump attempts at some of the balls going in his direction.. may have changed the context of that phase of play if he had jumped properly and got a touch. Obviously it could have been a headed ball to nowhere, but it still had a different effect to one of them heading the ball forwards instead. That's my main gripe with hirst this season, it's not his lack of scoring, that's never been him, It;s the way he's looking more like an Aaron Drinan every week. |  |

Sure, the lack of ball control didn't help, but Hirst was largely feeding off scraps. The balls which did get through may not have been the easiest to deal with (e.g. pinged extra fast to avoid the interception).
But the biggest issue was Clarke having to play deep in midfield, because he wasn't being fed out wide on the corner of the box, which is where he likes to launch goalscoring attacks from. SheffU's press and tight marking was just too good when we were missing Nunez as the link-man and Greaves was having a hard time at LB. | |
