Completely agree with the last paragraph especially. It's already here and it's not even close. Farage wouldn't go for this, nor would any reform politicians. Labour Tory lib dem green all would go. They'd have to.

It's the post truth world or whatever you want to call it and it's not a level playing field. The right know they can brush off pretty much anything and the support won't waver, the centre or anything approaching left have to have little things like accountability and a vague sense of decency. Then the right can equate stuff like open racism and similar about refugees, to stupidly messing up tax claims or similar and it will be 'they're all the same'.

The new normal.

It's only a few years since Danny Baker lost his job at the BBC for portraying Harry and Meghan's baby as a chimpanzee.

I remember it well. 6 years now. And the world has turned since then, backwards I would argue, if it doesn't stretch the metaphor. Do you honestly believe that Nigel Farage would be forced to resign for posting this?

In a minor way doesn't it prove my point that it was the BBC needing to act to protect its middle ground reputation, would a GB news presenter be held to the same standards? Maybe a bit of a tangent there but the overall point remains that in my mind we've regressed enough in politics that this post wouldn't bring down a right leaning politician here or in the US.

CNN just had a republican on and he was asked what he thouht of the video… deflected and said Democrats are mean and shout a lot, and we all need to elevate the conversation.

These spineless bootlicking enablers and deniers are the absolute worst.

It was just a meme, just bantz. The democrats don’t play dirty or fight fire with fire nearly enough. Should be going all out with Einstein-related stuff and then just say it’s memes.

They are pretty tame, but I always wonder whether it's partly the system over there. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention but they don't have a leader of the opposition over there do they? It seems very fragmented out of power, with no official presidential candidate until the election run up. Probably got this wrong, but it just seems to be a less joined up system than here.

I believe that there would be media pressure on Farage to resign, but he'd ride it out as harmless fun and a good number of his base would laugh along with it.

The stuff from his school days haven't done him the slightest bit of harm which is quite incredible when you think about it.

Not inly is the racism obvious, but they have also gone for some body shaming to boot. Michelle Obama is depicted as a big gorilla and Barack Obama as a little chimp.

They have 'House Minority Leader' and 'Senate Minority Leader' but that's about it, I think. Off the top of my head they are Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries but I doubt I could pick them out of a lineup. And having checked, I got the names right but the wrong way round.

I must admit, I'm surprised hes been so open about it this time. I mean he has voters to appeal to... or maybe not, if hes serious about screwing with the midterms.
[Post edited 6 Feb 12:49]

Personal conspiracy theory - his handlers are looking to engineer big losses in the midterms so he can claim 'interference' and look to suspend the electoral process somehow.

Now blaming a White House staffer, because that’s easier than admitting your boss is a massive racist.

Which is interesting as Trump always boasts that he alone has access.

President Autopen it is then…

Impressive commitment from that "staffer" to be working at 11.44pm.

What a load of nonsense. It'll be believed by those that want to believe it of course.

Obama should sue him for $10b

Then give it to the BBC should they lose Trumps case against them

It's only a few years since Danny Baker lost his job at the BBC for portraying Harry and Meghan's baby as a chimpanzee.

And not that long ago that David Baddiel was smearing his face in soot and openly mocking a black football player.

Don’t recall him losing any work or credibility amongst his fan base a result of that either..

Funny old world.

15 years ago this would be it. It would be the end of the president almost instantly.

Not anymore.

This is the thing that drives me crazy, like makes me want to scream, he's shared a video with blatant, vile racism, and all he has to do is take down the video about 12 hours later, how does this stuff no longer have any consequences? Do enough Americans secretly like this sort of thing that it gets no significant backlash, or do they just not care?

Indeed. Oddly enough, Big Al constantly brings up Baddiel's blackface from 30 years ago, something he has apologised for on several occasions, but but never mentions more recent examples by David Walliams or Leigh Francis. And it's always in response to something I have posted.

I wonder what it is about Baddiel that Big Al dislikes so much that it's only him that he ever singles out?

Yup, totally agree.

Just need to convince Trump and his supporters…Farage and his supporters…Tommy and his supporters….

Apart from those minor, irritatingly insignificant little inconveniences, you’re happy we’re generally heading in the right direction and the world has moved on then?
