| McKenna and the players kept their distance last night 08:03 - Feb 25 with 3030 views | DJR | Apart from Walton who did the customary win celebration, it was noticeable to me that the team and McKenna kept their distance from the away fans after the game. The contrast with Derby couldn't have been greater, even though the result was just as key. I wonder if that was a result of the disgraceful reaction of many fans after the game on Saturday.. | McKenna and the players kept their distance last night on 08:11 - Feb 25 with 2493 views | Kieran_Knows | An incredibly sad indictment to the supporters. People moan about not feeling a ‘connection’ with this group that they did with the 23/24 squad, then subject them to the ridiculous abuse on Saturday that they feel like they can’t even come close to the supporters to celebrate. A timely reminder for people to stop being such d!ckheads and losing their minds over losing a game of football. | |

As well as these players and probably KM himself having social media and seeing some of the stuff on social media over the last week and some top tier morons saying Mckenna should go or his job is on the line. Embarrassing. I've been embarrassed by our fans this season, especially with their views towards KM. Short memories. [Post edited 25 Feb 8:13]

Imagine walking over to 2k people shouting and swearing at you 3 days previously. I think anyone would be wary. Sadly, some of our fans rewrite the phrase "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" to "when the going gets tough, call the players c@nts". It baffles me mate.

TBH, I saw it as not going overboard on a win after the last couple of games. It wasn't like they ignored the fans en masse either. The lack of connection bullsht is as tedious to me as it is to you.

A bit 2+2=5 going on here... the players aren't that precious... saying all that, I completely despise the reaction of the vocal minority at Wrexham. Does. My. Nut. Have an uppie for the rewritten phrase :)

Money has warped views a little, certainly has with my expectations, but after sunday ive had to do a little reset and just start enjoying a team that is one of the best in the league.

I would have been too young (and without internet access) to notice anything at the time: Did things get as unpleasant during our 2002/3 failure to bounce back as they have done this season at times?

If you are using that narrative, then how about going back further and remembering how good it was under Robson and comparing to that era?

I don’t remember it being anywhere near as bad as this season.

well no, a totally different time, only what 4 or 5 seasons ago we were mid table in league 1? which is narrative i know people dont like. but the fact is we are watching a top team in this league, but has its flaws.
| McKenna and the players kept their distance last night on 08:54 - Feb 25 with 1895 views | backwaywhen | I don’t blame them , if nothing else some of our away fans are consistently inconsistent with their approach to showing the team support . I give you Sheffield Utd earlier at Portman Rd ….tonked 5-0 and all stayed to the end to give the team some fantastic support and encouragement and also respect ….will leave it there. | | | |

And I am glad he did because I really celebrated that goal, given all the stick he has received.

It was probably worse the year before as we got relegated but there was a lot of abuse directed at Andy Marshall in particular in 02-03. He was sh1t that season, but even so.... I don't think there was the collective sense of ennui from large parts of the fanbase that we've seen this season. Talk of 18 months of failure may be coming only from the biggest bores but plenty seem to be similarly inclined to judge the season overly negatively.

He needed a kick up the arse. He was complacent thinking he was our shoe-in number one striker and our other options not doing great either didn't help this. Now Azon is starting to shine a little and GH is clearly not first choice at the moment - so there's no justification for him to show any kind of ego

No. Not really. People then after a disappointing game tended to just leave the ground quietly. Rarely even boos let alone what’s dished up now. Yes there would be the usual collection of dimbos on radio Suffolk, but people were in general a lot more patient and had a far more realistic grip of the club’s situation. You might have a good rage over a beer, but not in the ground. Abuse tended to be reserved for the opposition, unlike now. The exception was Andy Marshall who was heckled and mocked. Was Royle appreciated for the job he did here? Not really. Two top six finishes while the team was sold from under him wasn’t too bad an effort. As for last night, if you were a player would you want to go near a load of people that had given you dogs abuse four days previously? Of course not. You’d do the bare minimum and head off wouldn’t you? I would. [Post edited 25 Feb 9:09]

This post by Waco, is why in my opinion, professional footballers think a lot of fans are complete bell ends.
| McKenna and the players kept their distance last night on 09:12 - Feb 25 with 1597 views | bsw72 | I would suggest it's more pragmatism, don't celebrate the wins as if you've won the league and don't dwell on the losses more than you need to learn from them. | | | |
| McKenna and the players kept their distance last night on 09:14 - Feb 25 with 1568 views | WubbleU | Interesting that we all noticed the same, not often the whole board agrees on something. Might have just been the comfortable nature of the win but think they might be a bit grumpy with us. Fair enough. I think it is also fair for us to be a little grumpy with them, even Leif said Wrexham was not right. But, only a little grumpy is ok, abuse is not ok. No good singing 'Follow the Town up or down' and thinking that means calling players c units when they lose a game. Hopefully win the next three and feel good factor will be back, on and off the pitch. | | | |
| McKenna and the players kept their distance last night on 09:18 - Feb 25 with 1518 views | USA | Hirst's celebration also felt a bit muted. His face had a look of 'Get off my back, I can do it' on it. | |

Suspect the players just held back a bit, long way to go. As a note, from the TV, the away support sounded absolutely top drawer for the entire match. Well done all.
